Christmas dinner

First world problem here...
I have 4 foods that need to go into the oven at 4 different temperatures. I even have 2 ovens and its still a problem. Not so good planning on my part.

Re: Christmas dinner

  • can something go in the crockpot?

last thanksgiving I made most of the meal and so I cooked what I could in crockpots...not sure that would work for you. or maybe you could make it ahead of time and then keep it warm in the crockpot.

or if you have people coming over, like your mom, could you get her the dish ahead of time and ask her to bring it with her when she comes?

  • Look up other recipes for the foods- sometimes you can bake it longer at a lower temperature. OR, use one oven as a warming oven. Bake each thing and then rotate them in the warming oven.
  • Crockpot won't work. Its beef, ham, lasagna and potatoes. Might work with the ham. I'm worried that the rwst of those will dry out or overcook in the crock pot .

And we are doing appetizers for an hour or so before dinner. Otherwise, I thought about his mom or aunt cooking one at her house

  • well the ham doesn't have to be piping hot when you serve it, right?

and for the other 3 items I would probably just decide to cook 2 of the items together and deal with the temp difference.  so maybe put he potatoes and lasagna in the same oven. the potatoes generally cook at a higher temp, so just cook them longer.

  • Yeah, potatoes and lasagna don't have raw meat, so they actually just need to be warmed up- that can happen at any temperature, it just takes more or less time

    Agreed!

That's what I was thinking. I'll pull these out and keep them warm while cooking the beef. I'm doing the beef medium rare then heating a little more of people want. I always plan too much food anyway. ;)
