I think my dog has Cherry Eye..help! Any Vets?

We have a year old Chihuahua Papillon named Hampton.  We went to a new dog park in town yesterday and it's all bark and gets very dusty when the dogs are running around, so we think this may have caused the eye problem, but maybe not?
Today I noticed what looks like a SMALL cherry eye (from what I saw from pictures, it's very similar, just much smaller).  At certain angles you can't even see it, but especially if he's looking up you can see the little pink blob of what could be cherry eye? But then I was thinking maybe it could just be an iritation? Or eye infection? There is no other discharge, discoloration, or tearing up.  His eyes are moist as normal, his behavior is normal, he's not pawing/scratching/or otherwise seeming in pain.

The only other thing that MAY be correlated is he's started randomly shaking his head as if getting a fly off his ears, but nothing visible will be there.  We use Frontline so he shouldn't have either of those, but we also looked in his eyes and couldn't see ear mites....not sure what that's all about.  He only does it occasionally, but more frequently this week.

Should we give it a few days and see if it gets bigger or goes away on its own? We just moved across the country and don't have much extra money for surgery, but obviously we will do what we need to for him if it comes to that.  Some people suggested massaging the cherry eye to make the eyelid/gland move back in place?
TIA

  • If your dog's eye isn't better yet, just go see a vet. They can look at it and give you a straight answer. At least then you'll know what you're dealing with.

  • Without seeing it no one can say whether it is or isn't a cherry eye. It could be a sign of pain due to a scratch on the eye or something else. Get it checked out. Eyes aren't something to mess with
