Weekend/Holiday Reading Progress

Happy Monday! Who's working today?

I'm back at work today after a week off. Not too bad though since a) the office is empty so I'll get tons done and b) it will only be today and a half day tomorrow, then off for another day.

What books did you start/finish/totally neglect/make good progress on this weekend or over your Christmas break?

Re: Weekend/Holiday Reading Progress

  • I made good progress on all 3 of my current books - Safe Haven by Nicholas Sparks, The Witness by Ginna Grey and There's More to Life Than This by Teresa Caputo. I'm really enjoying all 3.

  • I finished A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness over the weekend and I have met my goal!  However, I'm trying to read one more book so Goodreads could acknowledge I've met my goal.  Earlier in the year, I read a friend's book and it's not on Goodreads.

  • Finished my yearly goal and have mostly quit reading for the last few days. I have so many things to do! Tentatively started American Gods and am still finishing an audiobook. I'll start back in earnest after New Years!

  • I read a good chunk of Allegiant over the weekend.  Is it me or did the writing get worse in this one?  I completely loved and devoured the first two books in a matter of days, but this one isn't holding my attention as well.  I found myself thinking over the weekend, "wow, this chick is a bad actress," and then realized that no one is acting, I'm reading a book.  It's not the acting that's bad, it's the writing.

Because I'm trying to get through Allegiant since it's a library book, I'm neglecting Horns, which I own and am loving, and want to be reading all the time.
  • Between audio and print I finished 3 books and i should finish a 4th today.

    Shadow and Bone
    Siege and Storm
The Woman who Rides like a Man

Ha, that's so true.  This books was definitely not universally loved.  I think I only gave it 2 stars.  It made me sad!

  • I think I'm about halfway through Rogue Rider by Larissa Ione.  I finished HP7 over the weekend and started Four Sisters, All Queens by Sherry Jones but I'm having a bit of an issue getting into it.

  • I finished Stardust by Neil Gaiman last night.  It was #52 of #52 for the year so I met my goal which is pretty exciting.

Not working today which is pretty awesome but I go back on Thursday after a nice, long break.

  • I'm also back to work today after a week off. It is quiet in our office with only about half of the staff in (we are only a staff of 11).

I didn't get any reading done last week when we were traveling but I spent a good portion of yesterday reading. I finished Fudge Cupcake Murder (Hannah Swensen #4) and got about 125 pages read of The Dream Thieves. I cannot wait to find out what happens in The Dream Thieves!

I finished reading Attachments on Saturday, so I met my yearly reading goal. I enjoyed it, but not as much as Fangirl or Eleanor and Park.  I'm going to set my goal a little lower for next year because I found myself choosing short books in December in order to meet my goal.  I don't think I did any reading yesterday.  I need to get started on Cutting For Stone; my book club meets to discuss in two weeks.

I liked the Dream Thieves better than Raven Boys.  But that might be because I have a crush on Ronan, and so much of the book focused on him.

Same.  I wish I could skip this one, but I know it wouldn't be the smart choice.

It's been interesting so far, I have to admit.  I wasn't expecting it to go the way she took it.

  • Finished Big Stone Gap by Adriana Trigiani.  LOVED IT.  I downloaded the sequel but I am a little hesistant to start reading it after purusing the book jacket.

I'm about halfway through the Raven Boys and I am really fascinated.

Seige and Storm has not been touched since before Christmas break.  I really loved the first book of the Grisha series so I'm not sure why I'm putting it off.

  • I almost finished HP #5, I'm going to take a break after this one.

I read a tiny bit of Walking Dead #17 also, I really spent a lot of time napping and watching movies or organizing my bookshelf.

  • I'll be working later today. I finished Hunted by Karen Robards and read all of TFIOS. The first was okay, the second was amazing, and puts me at 42 books for the year.

  • I am plowing through the Kate Daniels series, I'm halfway through the 6th one.  Unfortunately now that I'm back at work all my reading time is going to be sucked right back out of my life again, blargh.

  • I actually got quite a bit of reading done.  Basically because I ignored everything other than my kids (sometimes ;) ) and spent every minute I could reading and was generally a lazy sloth for a long weekend.  It was a nice break, but my house is a mess :(  I read Attachments (loved!  So cute.) and The Wolf of Wall Street (wild ride, enjoyable read but only in the most disgusting way).  I'm debating what to start next, but I'm thinking The Winter Sea.

  • I have not read anything since before Christmas. However, I did get my H to listen to Outlander with me during our drive to the Midwest over the holidays. We are six discs from finishing it. It is so much better on audio!

  • Finished both Matterhorn and The Fault in Our Stars.  Loved Matterhorn but not TFIOS so much.  It was OK.  I am currently reading The Rape of Nanking and listening to The Racketeer.  The Rape of Nanking is really good.  I mean sad due to the subject matter (titles says it) but a good read for those into history.  The Racketeer is starting to lose me.  I'm almost finished with it and it was interesting at first but now I'm losing interest.

@SnShne322 He does like it, even though he calls it a "romance," and enjoys the valid historical points (like the drinking and fighting). I have repeatedly pointed out that it's not like a typical romance novel, but the four discs filled with friskiness in the middle didn't do much to sway that point. E's also an 1/8th Scot, which is why I think he was open to listening to it in the first place.

  • I'm off until Thursday and have done a good amount of reading. I've finished 'The Winter Sea', 'The Fiery Heart' and 'Allegiant'. I really wanted to hit 90 books this year but it looks like I'm only going to make it to 88 because I can't decide what to read next.
