Well, I personally know the people who I bought my goldendoodle from--who are amazing people.  I don't typically buy from breeders--which is my point if you read the rest of my post.  But I appreciate your opinion.
There are many amazing people who make mistakes. Just because your breeders are amazing people doesn't mean that they are breeding high quality dogs. Goldendoodles don't breed true (which is one of many reasons why they are not a recognized breed).

You are right, everyone could make a mistake.  My dog hasn't caused me any problems and is everything I expected and more.  Maybe I just lucked out and got the one in a million dog that fits perfectly in our life.

no one was saying there was anything wrong with your dog, or the people you got it from.  They're simply warning about giving dogs cutsie-cross-breed names because a "goldendoodle" is not actually a breed of dog.  It is not recognized by the AKC and families that breed those dogs are considered Back Yard Breeders, while the family you got your dog from may care for their animals well, many do not. and continuing to give dogs these cutsie hybrid names makes people contune to seek out those dogs a family pets for traits that they may not actually have. Then some families see these dogs a a source of income and back-yard breeder turns into puppy-mill.

AKC registered breeders have standards they must meet, and must justify every single litter they breed, show proof that the litter they're breeding is for the "betterment" of the breed, and they should have owners lined-up for puppies before the breeding is done. IF you need a allergy-free dog research breeds that are actually allergen free (poodles, portugese waterdogs, etc.) and go with purebred over a hybrid that may or maynot have the genetic trait you're seeking.

You are exactly right.  The OP just was asking about a good dog for her family.  I mentioned my dog, never saying he was an AKC registered dog breed.  I simply said that our dog fit our needs.  I understand that all godlendoodles, (or my mutt, since it isn't a breed) are different.  I was just sharing my experience.

  • exactly, we were trying to discourage you from encouraging the OP to Google "goldendoodle breeders near me"...which would just perpetuate the back-yard breeder phenomenon.

This thread has been goign I while, I'm curious if OP decided on a dog and if they found a shelter to work with or a breeder that met their needs. there was support for both.

  • I've had quite a few labs and they have all been sweeties and great with kids.  My last lab was a collie/lab mix and he was so good with our kiddos.
