I had to put my sweet kitty to sleep last night :(

So sorry for such a depressing post, but I just needed an outlet to get some feeling out. My poor baby, Henry (aka Henny, aka Bubby) passed away last night. We only noticed something was wrong the Monday before xmas and I cant believe he died already. After a week of tests and dimishing health, we found out last night he had an agressive cancer and might not live even another week. I knew he was ready to go (hiding, not eating), so decided to end his pain for him. Im just so so so sad. He was only going to be 8 this spring...so young for a cat. But he was more than just a cat to me. He was my better half. My shadow. Wherever I was, he was. Im just happy I was able to cuddle with him a bit more, and was able to tell him how much I loved him before he passed. I know it will take time to feel better, but all I want to do today is cry :(

  • I'm so sorry for your loss. It always feels like they aren't with us long enough, no matter how old they are or when they came into our lives. Everyone grieves in their own way, so take as much time as you need.

I had to say good bye to one of my two pugs in August. He was about to turn 7 (not old for a pug) and had no medical issues that we knew of. He collapsed one night while eating dinner. We rushed to the e-vet and found out he had an untreatable tumor on his heart that was bleeding and preventing his heart from beating normally. There were no symptoms until the collapse. It was devastating, but I know we made the right decision for him. I still miss him every day, but I'm able to focus more on the joy he brought to my life instead of the sadness at losing him. T&Ps to you and your family.

  • I'm devestated for you. My cats are my world so I know how you felt about him. The good thing is he is no longer in pain and time heals all wounds. I'm so sorry for your loss.

  • Thanks ladies. Your kindness and support means the world. We are creeping up on thr 72 hr mark and its starting to really sink in that he is not coming back. I hate that this is my new "normal". All I want is to be able to pet him somemore and get a famous henry headbutt :(
  • Huge ((hugs)). Losing your furry companion is one of the hardest things. I'm so very sorry. Remember the love you had, and know that he knew he was so loved as he crossed the bridge.

I had to say goodbye to my kitty when he was just 3. He had a tumor in his lungs. I was lucky to have 6 months with him after it was diagnosed, almost entirely thanks to my parents' generous payment of his medical bills and chemotherapy. But it was still too soon when I had to say goodbye.

Take as much time to grieve as you need. Everyone moves on differently.

I lost one of my cats to cancer when I was younger. It's awful.
