Favorite house plants?

I have a bay window in my living room that gets pretty good light. Although we usually keep the blinds closed, because we're so close to the sidewalk. Anyway, I would like to put a small house plant there, and I have no plant knowledge. Does anyone have any favorite house plants that would work in this environment? Thanks!

Watch the window during different hours of the day to see how many hours of sunlight you actually get there. Don't get disappointed if it's not much, some plants thrive in the shade. Look for plants that are easy to care. You can ask someone who works in the plant nursery to help you pick one out that is easy to tend to. I would recommend the spider plant, Warneck dracaena, or the Chinese evergreen for starter plants, because, well, that's what I have. They are easy to keep, and are forgiving when I've been neglectful/forgetful. Haven't been successful at keeping flowers yet.

Try a small ivy plant.  I can never keep any plants alive but so far I have had an ivy plant for a year and a half and it had been doing great.

Spider plants, love spider plants and peace lilies. Those are two good plants for air circulation. They don't really need a lot of light, but they need warmth, so make sure your window is well sealed in winter, otherwise just make sure your plant has grown. The bigger it is the tougher it is. 

We actually have a Plumeria (we got it from Hawaii) that is thriving. It's right next to the window for lighting (needs lots of light). It survived the winter, but it grew quite a bit over the summer, so it's really really hardy. Has like 8 leaves.

Aloe Vera is a super easy, low maintenance, house plant! It's not picky either. I have on aloe plant near a window that is doing great, and the other is in the office, tucked in a corner, nowhere near a window, and it's also great!
Spider plants are also pretty easy to grow in any light/conditions. My healthiest one was next to a window that always had the curtains drawn.

I also have an aloe vera plant and does quite well

Another vote for spider plants, they're easy!  I also have a prayer plant that has been doing well.  If you have enough sun, succulents and cacti are easy to care for.
