Long Distance and gifts

My DH and I are long distance at the moment. I am in California studying in the Air Force, and he is studying to be a lineman in Idaho. One thing that the long distance thing has made super hard for me, is what do we do for holidays for each other. We were able to see each other around Christmas time, but now that I am back (and being the early bird I am) I am already thinking Valentine's gifts for him. What should I get him? Has anybody had experience with long distance relationships during valentines day and have any ideas? He doesn't expect anything, so it doesn't have to be anything big. Probably the next time we'll be able to see each other is next may or june, so we can't just plan something for later. Also his birthday is in February also, I but I think I already have a plan for that.

Any help is much appreciated! Thank you!

Re: Long Distance and gifts

  • A card with a gift card the two of you can use together next time you see him.
  • Maybe one of those picture frames where you can put multiple photos in it.  You could fill it with photos of the two of you.

  • One year when we were long distance, I sent him a stuffed animal.  I know it sounds really silly, but the idea was that he could hold it instead of me.  We still have it and he actually seemed to like it.  Also, as Doeydo pointed out, pictures are really great.

You could also have a movie night - buy him a movie that he likes or wants to see and sent it to him with some microwave popcorn or his favorite movie snack.  You can rent the same one and make a plan to watch it at the same time.

    Good luck!
  • So at is ends up, I am getting a 4 day weekend (because of President's day) and will be off from the 14th-17th, and hubby is going to fly out the 13th night to come spend valentines day with me and fly back early morning on the 16th. I'm so happy!

  • Nice to read that :) I hope you had wonderful Valentine's Day :)
Next time - when you won't be able to give a gift in person - maybe you should think about sending the gift to him?
I already received birthday gift - star from the sky - from my boyfriend who is abroad and we will see each other in... June! :(
He bought it in Kingdom of Universe. I had no idea about this shop but the gift is really amazing! :)
I hope that soon we will be watching together the sky and we'll see my own star :):)
