NBR: need an idea for an item to sell at a school store

Help!

Ashlee has economics this semester at school. She needs to come up with an idea, make, market and sell the item in the school store. (she's in 4th grade by the way).

The total cost of the item cannot exceed $.50 (so by no means anything crazy). That way when they do normal mark-up to sell them the item won't exceed $2 for sale.

When Madison was in the class, she sold bookmark thongs. Little sister does NOT want to do anything big sister did!

The item should not be gender specific (ie, headband, jewelry, etc)

I am at a loss of what to find for her. I've been googling things for days and am rally batting zero (other than pen enhancers- these bead like things you wrap around your pen to decorate them.)

I figured I would see if anyone may have an idea that just isn't coming to me. If not, I'll be the lost puppy wandering around Michael's this weekend trying to come up with an idea!

(PS- I LOVE this class!! I think it is so cool how they teach kids about economics this way. And yes- they get to keep all profits for their sales - which Ashlee already has allotted as a donation to the local animal shelter. I love my kid)

Oh, and did I mention I need a prototype with cost breakdown for the teacher by next Wed!! Eeek!

We used to do something like this in middle school!  I loved it.

How about BFF Lego necklaces? http://www.instructables.com/id/Lego-Interlocking-Heart-Pendants/   Instead of chain necklaces, she could just use gimp string.  You could even spray paint the Lego pieces different colors (gold, silver, school colors, etc.)

Or even a jeweled Lego ring (gah, sorry it's so big): Basically all you need is those cheesey adjustable ring backs, glue them to the back of the Lego, and glue jewels to the Lego front.
