Please rec an audiobook for the gym

I've never tried listening to an audiobook while I was running (I usually listen to hip-hop because it keeps me moving), but I want to try.  Time seems to disappear on me when I sit in my car listening to a book, so maybe that will happen on the treadmill, too.  I think I want something kind of light and fun, and nothing too emotional that might make me cry at the gym, please!  I don't know how good my library's audiobook download system is, so I'll take all the recs I can get, in case they don't have some of them.  Thanks!

Re: Please rec an audiobook for the gym

  • I just put a hold on Outlander (all of you guys re-reading has inspired me to do the same, and I've never heard the audiobooks that you all rave about, so that one should be good), but there are 8 holds in front of me, so that one will be a while.

I also put a hold on The Midwife's Confession - thoughts?  There's one hold in front of me for that one, too.
  • Did you read Ready Player One?  I would keep gardening because I did not want to stop listening.  My yard never looked better.
  • I listened to Ready Player One a while ago.  I LOVED it!  Something like that would be perfect for the gym, I think.
  • Beauty Queens! So funny.
  • Mr. Penumbra's 24-hour Bookstore is really good on audio, for the gym I would rec funny memoirs like Mindy Kapling, Chelsea Handler, etc.

  • I'm listening to Beauty Queens in the car and loving it. Libbra Bray is even more awesome than I previously gave her credit for.

  • Beauty Queens is exactly the one I was trying to think of before I posted this!  THANK YOU!  Okay, I just borrowed that one.  But I'll still take other requests!
  • My library doesn't have Mr. Penumbra on audio!  I have been wanting to read that one, too!
  • The Peach Keeper is the only audiobook I have listened to but I really enjoyed it. And I primarily listened to it while I ran.

I am wondering about the Giver

  • Beauty Queens is soo good on audio. I think this especially brought the commercial breaks to life in the story.

If you liked Ready Player One, I think you'd probably like Lexicon by Max Barry too. The stories aren't super similar, but it had that same feel of solving a puzzle that I felt in RPO.  It was super smart and well written.

I love Libba Bray but I really disliked Beauty Queens, now I wish I had listened to it rather than read it.  I can see how audio would enhance it.
