Provera Responses (loss mentioned)

For girls who have taken Provera, I have a few questions.

This is the 5th time I've taken it, but the first time I've taken it after a loss.  I'm on day 7 out of 10, and started bleeding already this morning.  Usually my response to it is very minimal and is pretty much 2 days of spotting.  It also usually takes at least a week after the last pill in order for me to get anything.  As far as the bleeding, it's a very dark brown/ almost black in color.  Should I be concerned about all of this?  I know it's possible that there may have been some old blood from the m/c, but this is absolutely nothing like any other time I've taken it.

Should I be concerned, or just chalk it up to my body reponding differently to it because of the m/c?

I've never taken it after a m/c, but there have been times that I've taken it that my period is different than normal.  When I first took it, I started spotting halfway through and these last couple times I've taken it, it took 2-3 days for it to start.  When I went a long time without a cycle (like 6 months or so), it was very dark, almost black, like you're describing.

I'd say wait it out a couple days to see if it normalizes, but if you're concerned, it wouldn't hurt to call your doctor.

I've heard responses to Provera all over the place. Mine was always light, but I haven't had a loss.

My guess is that it would be normal, but if you are worried give your doc a call. Good luck!

I've heard of it starting while taking Provera before. If you're worried give the office a call.

Agree with PP- responses to provera are all over the place. I started bleeding this time after 3 days of it when normally I start closer to the end. I would call the doctor is you're worried. Better to be overly cautious than not when it comes to your health!!

Thanks girls.  This makes me feel better about it, and I don't know why I'm so worried.  If it continues to be dark brown/black tomorrow, I'm going to call in and at least just let them know.

I did start AF before I finished taking my dose of Provera, so I wouldn't worry about that.  I am not sure about the color issue though.  But I would definitely call if you are worried.

I never took it immediately after a loss (I had a D&C and my period started on its own).  Last time I took Provera though, it started on like day 5 out of 10, so I called my doctor and he told me I could stop taking it.  It was SUPER heavy flow though.

I've taken provera a bunch of times (never after a loss though) and my periods are so heavy from it that I have to change a super tampon about every 2 hours.  TMI...usually the blood is bright red but sometimes I'll have clots come out and they look black but are actually extremely dark red.
