Sick pup :(

Our 1 year old dog started vomiting last night.  Diarrhea this morning.  She was acting lethargic and not drinking anything so I took her to the vet this morning.  She had to get subcutaneous fluids and is on an antibiotic.  Vet told me signs to look for in case she needs to go back but i'm so worried about her!  She is acting much better now and is showing interest in food but he said to wait at least 24 hours before feeding her.  Just thought i'd share my worries :(

Re: Sick pup :(

  • oh poor girl! we've had several bouts of diarrhea with our now 9-month old pup. never anything serious, some anti-diarrheal and bland diet helped. never any fun to worry about a pet! we've got a cat that keeps pulling her furr out, can't figure out why, but something is bugging her.

  • Thanks! She seems a little better now, definitely not herself yet though.  She has been through a lot in her 1.5 years, bouts with allergies, eye problems and pulled a nail out around 4 months.. @Gdaisy09 hope you figure out what is going on with your cat!  Has she had trouble with allergies before?
  • oh no!! hope she feels better soon!

  • our poor allopecia cat, the fur pulling started around october, we thought it was anxiety with the puppy (who was 6 months old at that point). she's been on prozac since then, but that didn't weem to help.  She's now on a limited ingredient diet (at $90 a bag or $2.50 a can of food), neither seems to be helping.  we've upped the prozac dose in the last few weeks, we'll see.  She cuddles with the puppy, so that doesn't seem to be the issue.  the trichotilomania got worse while i wa gone for 5 days for work...so it appears to be a mom-related issue.  still following through on the food-allergy front, but want some of her hair to grow back before we start testing out other proteins.

    hows your puppy?

here's Jelly Bean cuddling with the puppy, showing off one of ther bald spots.

  • She seems to be feeling a lot more herself last night and this morning.  Around 10 last night she started looking for food so I gave her a little hamburger and rice.  After that she wanted to play for a little less time than her norm.  She was sleepy after and no issues through the night.  This morning seems pretty normal except she still hasn't drank any water!  I know she got a liter of fluids yesterday but I really wish she drink some on her own, then I'd feel a lot better.

@Gdaisy09 they are so cute cuddling together!  Sounds like you've been through a lot with her!
  • What does she think about ice cubes? our pup thinks they're yummy treats, if she'll eat some ice cubes she'll get some water, not as good at hydrating as room-temp water, but better than nothing. Also add water to the rice and ground beef you're giving her.  glad she's back to playing!

Jelly Bean is 4 years old, the first two years we had her she had chronic URIs, this is the first potential "food allergy" we've dealt with.

  • i tried ice cubes yesterday but generally she isnt too interested in them anymore.  just gave her a little gatorade mixed with water and she drank a little.  she's getting so spoiled right now.... hope this doesn't ruin her eating habits after!
