Sick Hubby :(

My H woke up this morning with a fever and stuffed up head....obviously I do not want to get sick, but any advice on what to do to hopefully avoid that (or in the very least minimize damage if I do happen to get sick)? Usually I can handle being sick, but now that I'm pg I am more concerned about the affect it would have on my unborn child - I'm only about 7 weeks along :(

I'm not even sure if he has the flu (hopefully not) or if it's just a bad head cold either (seems like it is)....I normally do not ever get the flu shot, and I was considering getting it this week actually, just to be safe, but it would be pointless now if I've already been exposed to his germs....

Re: Sick Hubby :(

  • I really don't think being sick can have an effect on your baby at this point. As long as you aren't running a fever and are staying hydrated, you should be fine. I hope your H starts feeling better soon and that you can avoid it all together, though

  • Lots of fluids, and Clorox wipes for all surfaces!!
  • Ditto PPs, and seriously consider getting the flu shot!!

If you were to catch the flu, running a fever would be incredibly dangerous for you and LO. Not to mention that once your LO is born, the immunity you pass on is all they'll have, since they can't get the shot until after 6 months, I believe. Granted, by September this year's flu shot won't matter so much for that as for someone who will be giving birth in the next couple of months, but it's still very important to at least protect yourself as much as possible.

My DH has been sick all week. He never went to the Dr (because, why would he ever do something that intelligent?), so I don't know what he's got, but the way he was running a fever and getting chills, my guess is the flu (because surprise, surprise, he never gets that shot either; that's changing next season!). I'd already been sleeping next to him by the time he started having symptoms and running a fever, so I pretty much just had to start keeping my distance as best I could. No kissing, been sleeping in the guest room (because he's been sleeping so poorly), and trying not to snuggle up to him too much.

  • I would get the flu shot!

stay hydrated and clean clean clean. the worst part IMO about being sick while pregnant is that it lingers. my goodness I had a head cold and I think it took 3 weeks to finally go away!

someone I work with came stopped by a job site today after calling in sick and he walked up to me and I was like, you're sick you gotta go. he was like can I see that paperwork and I flat out told him no, that I didn't want him touching papers I was going to be touching because I couldn't afford to get sick. I was like no really, I cannot get sick!! go home, thats why you called off!

  • Here is the information from the CDC on the flu and flu shot for pregnant women:

  • Yea, last night he slept in the guest bedroom and he's been staying as far away from me as possible.

I'm still on the fence about the flu shot though - I've never had one ever in my life and I've always been fine. I spoke with a friend who works in pharma (research) yesterday and she recommended not to get the shot - at least not in first trimester. I have another 5 weeks to go until then, so I might just ride it out. We shall see...I think as long as H stays away from me, I should hopefully be fine. Now if only I could get people to cover their mouths when they cough on the train...
