Interviewing for a First-Time Management Position

I'm actually asking this because I'm helping my husband prep for his interview next week.  I'm a new manager but I was hired internally so I don't think my experience interviewing will be the same as his.

What advice can you give to someone going into an interview for a management position with no management experience?  He's working on answers to questions about his management style, examples of previous times he was in a leadership position, and how he plans to handle scheduling, hiring, training, and dealing with workplace disagreements.

Is there any other advice anyone can offer or anything else he should concentrate on?

Re: Interviewing for a First-Time Management Position

  • what type of management is it? that would make a difference. Also, I don't think you should frame it as "no management experience." He might not have had the manager title, but hopefully in his career he will have shown leadership (as you mentioned) which is just as important, if not more so.
