Speaking of Color Requirements

One of H's brothers is getting married Feb 16th and the bride sent me their wedding website. Well, shes asking every guest to wear pink! I'm sorry but you cannot put a pregnant woman in a pink dress without her looking like a knocked up stripper. Might as well call me Candy. Not to mention its not exactly easy to find a maternity stress in pink that fits a February wedding :-/

Re: Speaking of Color Requirements

  • Is this a new trend? I've never heard of people asking guests to wear a certan color other than a black and white wedding. Could you just add a pink sash or scarf to a dress or maybe a pink flower in your hair somehow?

  • Seems strange and rude, in my opinion. Not everyone would look good in certain colors. What about the guys?

  • Maybe because it's Valentines day weekend? I don't know, I'd probably just do what @uderin02 said and wear a pink accent of some sorts.

  • Yeah I ended up getting a black dress for the wedding I'm going to, screw it.
  • I ended up telling the bride last night were going to wear a combo of black and white. My friend gave me a bunch of maternity clothes that included a really nice black and white dress and I really dont want to spend $50+ on a dress I will never wear. Least with black and white I can wear black shoes and call it a day. If I get a pink dress I will need shoes etc. Maybe I'll do a pink ribbon above my belly for contrast to match Annabelle (I'm sure I can find her a pink dress) and H can wear a pink tie or something.

When I was searching online yesterday I kept coming across this dress and it kept making me think stripperrrrrr

  • I have a really beautiful pink dress that I wore when I was pregnant. Not all maternity dresses are that tight. I wouldn't wear a dress like that even if I wasn't pregnant.

So...does a non-pregnant woman in a pink dress look like an un-knocked up stripper?  I'm not following your logic.
  • Anything with an empire waist would work, it doesn't need to be maternity or form fitting. I'm with @amcourt09, I would never wear something that tight even if I wasn't pregnant.

  • Can you get a pink maxie dress and pair it with a cute cardigan?

    I don't think pink = striper.

  • What about something like this? Less bright, and way less tight?

    I like this a lot!

Aleks what do your soon to be SIL say when you said that you weren't going to wear pink?

I think I 'd feel bad not following dress code if the wedding I'm going to was a family wedding.

She just said ok and she that figured not everyone would be able to dress in pink. I saw one online at Kohls that I liked but it didnt have one in my size. Maybe if I wait closer to Feb they will put out more springish pink dresses because right now I'm not finding anything I like.

  • Being that it's so close to Valentine's day, I would probably have worn something pink anyway. I'm sorry but I just don't think this is as crazy as asking a pregnant woman to wear something white and sparkly to a wedding. There are a million shades of pink and a million different ways to wear it. I just googled and found about 10 options that I think are fine.

Also, not to be snarky, but this is the bride's day. Especially since she's family, I'd do my best to make her happy on her day. When Shawn's sister got married, she asked me to wear a tropical print dress and Shawn to wear a tropical print shirt. It wasn't necessary what we would have picked but we did it because that's what she wanted. He actually spent a lot on a shirt at Tommy Bahamas that he has never worn since because that's what made her happy on her day.

There are some really cute pink ones. I'd def rent one if it's not your thing to wear pink while preggos. I used this company a few times. If they have a dress in the size above or below yours you can ask for it for free just in case- so you pay for one and you get 2 to try. If they don't fit you can mail them back without wearing them and not pay.
  • I dont know, I'm just really not feeling anything pink I find. Its not so much the dresses as it is how it looks on my body. I'm super pale since its winter and the pink just either makes me look even whiter or washed out. This is one of their 2 weddings, one will be in May in the islands so between having two weddings and bridesmaids I dont see the need to make guests wear all the same color too.

  • Then wear what you want.

But bashing a color and calling it stripper-like just because you can't wear it is a little much. I'm pale and I can't do a pale pink in the winter, but a medium one looks good.

Is she having 2 weddings so both sides can celebrate? I'm guessing the other is in the DR where your ILs are. That's really nice, and shouldn't mean her wedding here can't be how she wants it.

  • I just dont like it and thats what it makes me think of especially in the winter when its so off season. I'm not a fan of how it looks especially the dresses I was finding the first day I was searching.

They are having the second wedding in the Bahamas. Family and friends are invited but not sure how many will be able to make it. They just always wanted an island wedding so they are having 2.

  • I'm sorry to keep beating this dead horse but ...

Prettttty sure that pink would be "in season" for a Valentine's weekend wedding.

But since you don't like the 9 million options we've all given you, here's some advice from my friend Ryan.
