You're face regimen.

How do you keep care of your face? I never used to really have acne or anything, but recently I find myself in a higher stress environment (I am in the military and learning a brand new language in 47 weeks) so it has been rather stressful. Also the air here is different than what I'm used too. My skin is not oily. I have oily areas, like on the creases of my nose, and sometimes on my chin (that is where most of my acne is) but other than that, my face is not super dry and not super oily. If I get face wash meant for oily skin it dries out my skin so bad that it hurts, but it gets rid of the acne. If I use sensitive skin face wash it doesn't seem to do any good. So I was wondering, what would your recommend for a facial regimen. What kind of face wash should I use? Moisturizer, make-up? Any advice I'll be happy to take I don't generally wear make-up, just a tinted moisturizer, but I've been thinking about wearing it more, depending on if my skin can handle it.

Re: You're face regimen.

  • I've always had acne and dry skin problems...seriously, what's a girl to do?

I started using the Mary Kay combination to Oily timewise line several years ago and I'm loving it.  I've since started selling it myself and love all the products designed for my skin type.  find a consultant near you and make an appointment for a facial, they'll help you figure out what would work for you and you can try before you buy. Their cleanser is gentle for sensitive skin and their moisturizer does not over moisturize...they also opt for a sunscreen serum rather than lotion so your sunscreen isn't adding extra oil to your face.

I love their tinted moisturizer with SPF (insider tip, they're discontinuing that and coming out with a BB-cream, but so far anything they discontinue they replace with a superior product.)

  • Thank you very much for your suggestion! I'll look into it. I really want to do something, because since I've never had acne before, whenever I get even a few pimples it bothers me. I don't even know how to hide them well with makeup because I've never really had the problem.
  • I have the same problem and, while I haven't found a solution yet, I'm getting closer.

Using products for acne-prone skin won't help because it over dries your face and from everything I've read, that's very bad for your skin. Also, don't over-exfoliate. I noticed that my skin got much worse when I exfoliated more than twice per week because it was irritated.

I've noticed that using a cleansing mask once or twice per weeks helps a lot - Origins clay mask is amazing for my skin. I've also noticed that using a mild cleanser, toner, and light face cream works best - I really like La Roche Posay, but I'm not sure it's available in the US (it's a French company), and Neutrogena has some excellent products (but I always break out when I use their SPF facial cream).
  • I just use Cetaphil as facial wash.. and put some Glycolic cream on my face before I sleep.
  • Thank you ladies very much! I can't wait to find something that works well. Maybe I'll go ahead and see what is available. I just want a system.
  • I use the clairsonic Aria. It's a tool with a brush head that vibrates and cleans your skin 6 times better than just normal washing. YouTube has tons of reviews of the product which I found really helpful. I use it with philosophy face wash and it has seriously changed my life. My sister had horrible breakouts and it cleared up her skin incredibly!! I bought the system based on her results. I bought it because I don't take very good care of my skin and I'm in my 30's and now getting concerned with fine lines and avoiding wrinkles. The Aria is expensive and costs $179, but they have cheaper systems as low as $99. I previously used a neutrogena version which is way cheaper and not nearly as effective. Also for actual face products, you should go to a Sephora and have them give you some face cleanser samples to see what works best on your skin. I feel like investing in quality products is the answer.

  • I went back and forth on the Clairsonic, finally settling on the Mia. It changed my life as well. My skin in clearer. If I do get a pimple, it is gone within a few days. My pores are smaller. Ulta does 20% a few times a year. I bought mine with a Birchbox coupon code.
