Re: Weekly accountability post

  • I'll start...

    1) My weekend was $$$.  I went to visit H in Nashville and somehow managed to run into 4 people we knew.  We ended up getting drinks, ice cream, or meals with all of them because I'm rarely up there.  I honestly don't even want to look!

    2) Some small progress - we went test-driving cars and have a better sense of what we want to buy.  I should have lots of progress for next week because I'm starting my new job today!  So I got the health insurance decided, paperwork filled out, etc. over the weekend too.

    3) H and I are both pretty artsy - we are both musicians in our spare time.  I play flute and am somewhat competent on violin (fiddle style, not classical).  H plays clarinet, saxophone, and is competent on tuba and piano.  He actually composes too and has had pieces played by various ensembles, university bands, etc.  He composed all the music for our wedding!  I also grew up dancing and love all forms of dance.  Same for horse back riding.  I think I will feel like I have arrived in life if I can someday afford my own horse.

  • How MM was your weekend?

We had another pretty boring weekend so we only spent $40 for gas.

    Any progress towards goals?

Same, we saved a good amount of money this month so far, but I'm not sure how February will be because we have a lot of bills coming up!

What are your hobbies and/or talents?

    My favorite hobby is scrapbooking!

  • Good morning!

    1. It was a medium MM weekend. We had dinner with old friends, but it was planned and budgeted for.

    2. I put some babysitting money in my short term savings. I also took a look at next month's budget and figured out a way to put 10% towards retirement (5% matched!) starting next paycheck. This will be a bit of a leap of faith considering all of the other goals we're working on, but I'm excited anyway. I can definitely thank the board for this change!

    3. I SCUBA dive, which is probably one of the least MM hobbies out there. A lot of my recently-gone consumer debt was acquired this way, but I still love it so much. You can see amazing things underwater! I'm enjoying it now while I can-most serious women divers have a hard time staying in the hobby once they have kids.
  • 1) Friday we ate at a friends place and picked up some booze on the way ($20). Saturday was a lounge day but we got takeout for dinner ($30). We went shopping at some outlet stores on Sunday which was a long drive. We used two gift cards though so that cut down on too much spending ($60). Monday was a holiday for me so I cleaned the apt and H worked. Could've been worse I guess. :)

    2) Yesterday H said he was wanted to live off one of our salaries and save all the other, so maybe we can finally get motivated to stop eating out and what not..

    3) I'm really into photography and am starting to teach myself. Finally got a DSLR for Christmas so I'm looking forward to this hobby!

  • 1) How MM was your weekend?

MIne was pretty decent. We did spend a little extra on a few items, but one thing will be returned and will get our money back and the rest was budgeted for the paycheck coming up. We did go and get food while we were at the mall, and I managed to save ourselves from a financial headache.

    2) Any progress toward goals?

I did pay down a credit card, we only have one payment to go and that card will be done.

    3) What are your hobbies and/or talents?

Hobbies include: cake decorating, bow making, creating tutus, painting, pretty much any craft work, baking and cooking

Talents: I can sing. I'm pretty lame everywhere else.

  • 1) How MM was your weekend? Spendy, but budgetted. We are re-doing our floors soon and went to lumber liquidators to see what they had. Well, they had an end lot that was what we needed square footage wise, and .75 instead of 1.99 a square foot, so we bought that this weekend. So that was like $350. Also ended up in BRU getting baby food and a bunch of clearance clothes and spent $110. Yesterday I went shopping with my sister and spent some money at the Archiver's store closing sale ($100) but I got a lot of great stuff.

    2) Any progress toward goals? Van is almost paid back. With the 'bonus' 3rd paycheck this month we should have paid back our savings account the money by the end of next month. If DH gets a bonus this month, it will be paid off this month. The bonus paycheck helped us pay it back 1 month early as we put it all towards repaying our savings account.

    3) What are your hobbies and/or talents? I am a crafty person. Although I haven't really had time for it since DS has been born, I love to scrapbook. I also made several things for his nursery, and love finding and trying things on pinterest.

Jessica, I love scrapbooking too!! It's my favorite thing to do, and I feel like I am so far behind. I haven't even started a scrapbook for my son, but I'm hoping to get to it soon.

  • 1) How MM was your weekend?
Not bad at all.  Got groceries that will last us close to 2 weeks, and filled up both cars. Other than that I sold TS this weekend and made $150. So I was very pleased with that.
    2) Any progress toward goals?
Put $400 into our "special" account this week to go toward debt.  H has been working Saturdays, and that brings in close to an extra $150.
Also listed some items for sale that we no longer need.
    3) What are your hobbies and/or talents?
Decorating. One of my dream jobs would be an interior decorator or home designer. I also like to travel. Even if it's just a few hours away to try out a new restaurant or museum.

I hear ya! I started a giant wedding album (consisting of when we first met, up to our recent first wedding anniversary trip) and I am still working on it! It can get expensive so I buy supplies a little at a time. I also don't work on it very often so it's taking awhile...It's a lot of fun to look at
  • 1) How MM was your weekend?

Pretty good, I don't think I spent a single penny this weekend. H spent most of his time playing online games with his brother, and I mostly spent time outdoors hiking and reading.

    2) Any progress toward goals?

Well, for now my goal is to recoup the money I spent after having to take my cat to the vet, so I think I'm off to a good start with that since I haven't spent much since my last paycheck. :)

    3) What are your hobbies and/or talents?
I love reading and writing, and I'm also pretty musically/theatrically inclined. I love to sing and dance and I play a few instruments semi-decently (Piano and violin, and I'm trying to teach myself guitar at the moment). DH and I actually met working on a play when we were both teenagers, and have done several different plays together since then. Aside from that I love animals and while I used to spend a lot of time horseback riding when I was younger, I mostly spend my "animal time" at the shelter doing volunteer work these days. For the record, I am not athletically inclined at all--I seriously have like the worst hand-eye coordination ever!  :)

  • 1- We got take out chinese on friday night ($17) and rented a red box movie ($1.30).  Picked up a script for DD at walgreens ($9).  Saturday we went to the grocery store to pick up some stuff to make for dinner ($25)

2- Not really anything towards goals this week.  In fact I will probably have to take some money out of our efund when I get the ER bill from friday.  DD was breaking out in hives and her pedi didn't help us so we ended up at the ER.  Good times.

3- I play violin and viola.  Been playing viola for 23 years and went to a music conservatory for it.

  • 1) How MM was your weekend? The usual- groceries and gas. We had to go shopping for a new side entrance door this weekend.. it's going to be pricey, but it's the entrance we use every day. We haven't put any money down on it yet, but just made the weekend a little less MM than usual.

    2) Any progress toward goals? The only new thing is that DH is going to put $250/paycheck into savings on top of my $500/paycheck for the year.

    3) What are your hobbies and/or talents? I love to sew- my mom taught me when I was 6. She made me dresses when I was little, doll and barbie clothes, 2 prom dresses, and my wedding dress. I've made holiday dresses, stuffed animals, Halloween costumes, and decorative pillows for the girls. I'm looking forward to teaching them how to sew in a few years.

I think we're basically the same person - I met H at all-state band our senior year of high school (*cringes*)... I guess our eyes met across the conductor's podium, and the rest is history!  Ok, not really - I turned him down the first several times he asked me out.

My "animal time" these days primarily involves the local zoo.  My dad's a college professor and does his research in primatology (gorillas), so zoos, conservation groups, etc. are a pretty big part of my life.  That said, horses (and cats!) really do have my heart.... someday!

  • 1)  MM was your weekend: weekend was good, today I needed new gloves and windshield wiper that cost $60 total.  Everything else was planned or cash.

    2) Waiting on tax time to be able to pay off my credit card that has our overflow medical bills from last year.

    3) I like to cook, bake, garden, read, and play video games.

Haha, that is so bizzarre, it makes you wonder sometimes doesn't it? Life is so random sometimes. Like you, I would love to have a horse. DH wants to buy some land and build our dream home some day, and I told him my only requirements are a library for all my books and enough land so that I can have a horse and large garden. Maybe one day!

That is very cool about your dad--if I was any better at science and biology I would love to have a job like that. I wanted to initially study marine biology in college, but the thing with a field of study like that you have to actually be good at, you know, biology. :)
  • 1) How MM was your weekend?  We ate out a little too much.  The one time we had a GC for, but I forgot it.  We will have to be good this weekend to stay in budget for this month.

    2) Any progress toward goals? Last CC gets paid off tomorrow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Now onto last SL.

We will sit down and adjust our goals after taxes since we now have a baby on the way (due in Sept).  I'm 6 weeks, so it's still early, but I'd like to start putting $$ aside for the nursery and my stepkids' room (so they don't feel left out), other baby needs... and maternity clothes for me.  SK are here a few weeks in the summer, so they have bunk beds and toys, but I'd like to get a dresser for them, and decorate the walls in their rooms.

    3) What are your hobbies and/or talents?  I crochet.  I mostly do hats, scarves and baby blankets if it's someone special.  I love doing the crazy baby hats.  I just made my friend's son a dinosaur hat and other friend a puppy hat.
