Is It Tacky

To get married then wait 1.5 years to have your reception?

A high school/FB friend got married at the JoP today (which I have no problem with) but she's going on & on about how the reception won't be until spring 2015. This may all just be me being a b*tchy mcb*tcherson but H has been out of town since Monday and now his flight is more than likely going to be cancelled because of the weather so I'm extra grumptastic today.

I definitely think it's weird. Someone I went to HS with also got married a few years ago and is starting to plan her reception. I'm not sure what etiquette has to say about this sort of thing.

I hope your H gets home safely!

  • I would think it is. I also know someone who waited a while to have the reception but they went a step further and actually had the ceremony again. Also they got engaged and went to the JOP in the same week. So I agree that it's tacky!
  • H's flight was just cancelled!! I hope he likes the Detroit airport because with the way the weather looks, he might be there for awhile :(

I'm glad I'm not the only one who finds it strange but to each their own I suppose.

  • I think etiquette says that is not okay.

But I think it is also a regional thing.

Also, though- did she invite all the people to the ceremony? I mean, I can see it being OK etiquette wise (but even stranger real life wise) if she issued invites to all these people to the ceremony with an insert which read: please join us for a reception at xyz, on June 15, 2015 at 4pm.

(Not gonna lie, I kinda hope she did haha)
    Right?

  • Uh...yea I think it's sort of tacky. Is there a reason why the "wedding" is so far away?

  • She's 6 months pregnant but I don't see how that is a reason to wait so long to have a "wedding" reception.
