Cat peeing problem

I'm not a regular here at all, but I have a question, and I know you all are very knowledgeable about pet issues. I have a dog and a cat. The cat always uses the litter box, minus one exception. We have a bed in the corner of our living room that we use specifically for the dog to eat his treats on. The cat, for some reason sprays on this bed. He doesn't do this anywhere else in the entire house. I know he is marking territory, but I really need him to stop doing this. Any suggestions? Just to give you some more information, his litter box is behind a gate that the dog can't get through and is cleaned regularly.

Re: Cat peeing problem

  • Have you washed the dog's bed with Nature's Miracle?  That will hopefully get the smell out and possibly stop the spraying.  You also might want to consider a pheromone diffuser for that area.  It sends a scent out into the air (that only cats can smell) to calm them down.
  • Ditto PP about using an enzymatic cleaner on the dog bed and trying a pheromone diffuser or spray (Feliway makes both; the diffuser takes up to a month for full potency and must be replaced regularly; the spray needs to be applied every few days).

Also...you said the cat "sprays" and he's "marking his territory." Um...is he neutered?!

  • definitely wash the bed with Nature's Miracle. a Feliway difusser has helped our kitty with some anxiety (lots of vets sell them, but they're cheaper on Amazon).

does the cat have a space that's "his" we got out cats a cat-tree and that solved several of our cat-dog issues.
