NBR: We have (proper) heat again!
Turns out that before we moved in someone destroyed the furnace breaker and then rewired it somehow (details are fuzzy), and they also disconnected the emergency heat. All of this was why we have been freezing our asses off in a 55* house whenever the temps outside drop below freezing. Last year that wasn't a problem, but this year it is COLD. Thankfully the repairman was able to get the part and came back at 8:15 last night to finish fixing it and we are back to a normal temperature inside. Wahoo!!
