Oops! Accountability post.

I just remembered that it's Monday again!

1.  How MM was your weekend?

2.  Progress towards goals?

3.  What's your favorite season and why?

Re: Oops! Accountability post.

  • I'll start!
I just remembered that it's Monday again!

    1.  How MM was your weekend?

Not great.  We saw a lot of old friends, many of whom we can't do at-home hangouts with because they live in a nearby city and don't have cars.  It was fun, but too expensive.  We need to figure out a way to cut back on social expenses.  Its tough since we're both onlys, and that makes friends take on a high level of importance.  Since I'm supposed to be holding myself accountable, we spent almost $150 dollars seeing friends Thursday through Saturday.  That's too much.

    2.  Progress towards goals?

Not yet, but tomorrow (payday) I'll be putting 10% into my Roth IRA and $100 into my DP fund.  I've slashed my fun budget for a while-it's time to get serious about our goals.  I was also able to pick up a dive class to teach, which will be $50 extra for my DP fund.

    3.  What's your favorite season and why?

I just love fall in New England.  I get very cheesy and romanticize it.  Spring is usually way too rainy where I live, and although summer has its perks I just don't really enjoy the crazy humidity.

  • I want to start playing this game too. :) 1. Best in a long time! Only $18 for lunch. Also only used half my grocery allowance, because I decided it is time to start eating up some stuff from the freezer. 2. Ok... I'll be making my final grad school tuition payment in two months so I'm really stretching every penny for that. 3. Fall. For some reason, it is the only time of the year where I reminisce about the past. It is also so pretty!

  • 1.  How MM was your weekend? Everything was budgeted, but we ended up going out to dinner Saturday night. So $26 at Applebees, and $60 at Walmart for toiletries.

    2.  Progress towards goals? Had our house inspection on Wednesday for the refinance, and we realized Saturday that we can pay off H's car entirely with our lump sum first payment toward debt. So we're going to wipe that out once the refinance is finished.
H has also been working Saturdays, and that's been bringing in an extra $250 each week. So we've been putting that aside for our snowball.

    3.  What's your favorite season and why? Fall.  I'm a farm girl, and harvest is the best sight and smell ever. It's also the time I consider more of "relaxing" from the busy spring/summer house projects.

  • 1.  How MM was your weekend?
Bought the rest of our laminate flooring so that cost us about $1500. Still need to buy the underlayment and some other supplies which we will do next weekend. Other than that, didn't spend anything. This was budgetted, so even though it was a good chunk of money, we have been saving for new floors for a while.

    2.  Progress towards goals? Yep, getting new floors in the house soon!!!

    3.  What's your favorite season and why? Fall, love the changing colors of the leaves.

    1.  How MM was your weekend? Not bad. The only thing we bought was some cat food ($30), which was budgeted for.

    2.  Progress towards goals? So far we've been trying to cut down on spending so that we can focus on trying to recover some of the money that we spent, and that's been pretty successful so far. We'd like to get our e-fund back up to what it was before, and as of next week I will also be putting some more money towards my Roth that I just started.

    3.  What's your favorite season and why? I'm a fall lover--I love all the changing colors and the fact that I have an excuse to wear all my cute and comfy sweaters. :)

Edit: I forgot to mention that I got a 2nd job and today is my first day! I'm hoping the money from this job will be a little bit of a cushion for us next fall when I start school.
  • 1) My weekend was pretty MM: I spent $46 on a costco run, which was pretty good - I hardly ever make it out of there under $50.  I also spent about $38 on gas.

    2) Lots of progress toward goals - I just finished my first week at my new job.  Starting out slow, but work is already starting to pick up.  I'm loving it!  Turns out my previous job paid in advance and my new job pays in arrears.... so I'm going to be going about a month without getting paid.  Not ideal, but I tried really hard to cut back on my spending once I heard about the move just in case.  I might not be putting much into savings, but I don't think I'll be dipping into savings either.  So that feels like an accomplishment.

    3) Yet another person who loves the fall - I love the colors, and my birthday is right before Halloween, so I always carve a pumpkin as part of my birthday tradition.  It feels like it kicks off the holidays, which I also love.

  • 1) Spent $40 at Home Depot, got tired of being blinded by our one lamp that had a broken lamp shade.  Other than that, we cash flowed the rest of the weekend.  Bought pizza on Saturday lunch which we also had for dinner, and Sunday lunch.

    2) Taking a look at our medical bills last year we spent about $4k, with us trying to get pregnant with our second we are planning to spend about this much again this year.

    3) I really like the spring as the trees and flowers start to bloom.
  • 1.  How MM was your weekend? We spent nothing, but sadly only because we were sitting shiva most of the week. On Friday and Saturday we were in services. My husband's aunt passed away. :(
    2.  Progress towards goals? This week we wrote a check to fund our Roth for 2014.
    3.  What's your favorite season and why? Fall. (As long as it's not raining.) We have a great cider mill within walking distance of our place. Plus I love wearing sweaters and boots, and being outside.
  • 1.  How MM was your weekend?

Spent more on dining out than I wanted.  But going grocery shopping tomorrow.

    2.  Progress towards goals?

Already got 1 card below $2k and have been putting money towards each check.

    3.  What's your favorite season and why?

Summer.  I am a summer baby and live near the ocean.
  • 1 - Our weekend was probably more MM than the last couple weekends for sure.  DH, DD and I went out to eat at Red Lobster on Friday night to celebrate all the work he did for the HOA annual meeting last week.  They use scare tactics whenever someone asks if we can build a pool in our hood, but DH doesn't take no for an answer so not only did he have standing room only at the meeting, but he also got voted on the board for the next coming year.  Yes, a pool in our neighborhood is finally going to happen!  Dinner was $60.  I got a couple hours away from DD and did some shopping alone.  spent about $50 on a few new tops to wear and we spent $112 at target on household items. We also got a red box for $1.30 and spent $24 at the grocery store on sunday.

    2.  Nothing last week that went towards goals

    3.  Spring is my fav season.  I love planting all my new flowers and spending more time outside.  The hummingbirds come back as well.  I make my own hummingbird food and put 2 feeders out.  We have 1 family that hangs out every year.  mom, dad, and baby hummingbird.  I miss them this time of year.

  • How MM was your weekend?

Pretty good, 1 tank of gas for $40, and $20 at Ann Taylor along with a gift cert and coupon for Xmas. With H back in school and studying all the time, we don't go out together often so it is savings us $. Total- $60

    Any progress towards goals?

Eh the same, we keep stashing money away towards the house DP, e-fund, mortgage, and a vacation to Florida that I booked with my family in April. Can't wait!

What is your favorite season and why?

I live in New England as well and love the spring time. My favorite month is May. It's the perfect temp (70's). It nice during the day, and a little cooler at night. I don't like the cold or extreme hot. I really need to move.

  • 1.  How MM was your weekend? Not terrible. I spent $60 dollars on some new clothes that I didn't really need. H bought $10 in beer.

    2.  Progress towards goals? Waiting patiently for H's check on Friday so we can put another $1,250 into the bank. After that we will have $3,000 left to save. Should be done April 1st!

    3.  What's your favorite season and why? Fall. I live in an area surrounded by small mountains that just pop with fall color. I love looking out my living room window while the sun sets.

  • 1. How MM was your weekend? We did ok.  I was pretty sick, so more eating out occured than I would have allowed otherwise.  Thought it was really bad MS, but now I think I got a touch of the stomach bug since I had a low grade fever.  $30 walmart run since I asked H to get me some tylenol when he got back from work Saturday morning and some pasta sides since that was the only thing I felt like eating... he came home with 15 of them!  15!  He said if that's what his baby wants - he's stocking up.  $25 for pizza that lasted a few nights.  $10 for subway for H, and $100 on groceries/toiletries/dog food.

    2. Progress towards goals?  Just fiddling with February's budget.

    3. What's your favorite season and why?  FALL!  I love everything about fall!  Pumpkin everything, hoodies, no more humidity, bonfires, football, leaves changing...

  • 1.  How MM was your weekend? The weekend was good- met with a CPA/CFP about how to better utilize our saving account. Went grocery shopping, got gas, and had a birthday party on Sunday.

    2.  Progress towards goals? Doing good- going to open Roth IRA accounts for me and DH with max contributions for 2013 before April. Going to set up a meeting with a lawyer about the will over DH's February break. We did order a new side entrance door for the house this week- it was desparately needed though and I put it on my 0% card so I have until June to pay it off.

    3.  What's your favorite season and why? I love Fall- the leaves change, the weather is usually really nice, and I get to wear sweaters and boots. Plus there is a fabulous pumpkin patch near my parents' house that the girls really enjoy.

  • 1.  How MM was your weekend? Mine was actually pretty great. I spent under budget on groceries, eating out, and party supplies for DD's birthday party on Sunday. Actually, out of the budgeted amount, I saved about $100. This will be going towards DD's new bed though, but at least I won't be scraping up that money from some place else.

    2.  Progress towards goals?  We started putting away $10 towards DD's savings account and we paid off another credit card.

    3.  What's your favorite season and why? I'm a summer girl. My birthday is on the summer solstice. I love the warm weather and I hate being cold.

  • Props for remembering to post this every week! :)

    1.  How MM was your weekend?
Pretty good! H now works Saturdays for tax season so it seems like it will stop us from spending as much on the weekends. We only spent a little money picking up some wine for a party we were invited to on Sunday.

    2.  Progress towards goals?
Not much...I think this question is going to start getting a little boring for me as I can't say much changes week to week in this department ;)

    3.  What's your favorite season and why?
Summer...hands down. New England winters are so depressing...especially this year's. I do love fall as well though...but I look forward to summer much more.
