Anyone else over winter

One more snow delay or cancellation and I may scream! Last year we had one cancellation all year, I think we've had 4 full days of school this month. I'm going crazy. I appreciate the notice we've gotten, but having to find alternative care is getting old. I'm hoping February and March are kinder to all of us.

Re: Anyone else over winter

  • Raises hand!   Luckily our daycare didn't close this time like it did the last time the temps were this low.   We have plans to go to Great Wolf Lodge in February when Noah was supposed to have a day off from school. (We promised him a trip there when he was in hospital on Christmas).  I'm sure he's not going to be off that day anymore.  Oh well.

I bundled myself up so well this morning that I was almost sweating when I got to the building from my car!
  • I am over it!  Luckily my kids go to an at home provider so she doesn't close but dragging both kids and myself out of our nice warm bed, getting everyone bundled up, the car warmed up, and then both kids into the car and their carseats is exhausting.  And then I have to go to work!  At that point, I'm ready to go back to bed.  It's been too cold to even enjoy the snow.

  • It hasn't bothered me as much this year as it has in the past.  I can attribute part of that to DH being a SAHD, so the only person that has to get up and out in the cold as me.

Secondly, we're still in the honeymoon phase with our new home.  It's our first winter there, so it's comforting to sit inside with the fireplace glowing and just enjoying the beautiful winter scenery outside my window.

  • I'm going to lose my mind soon!!! I hate winter to begin with. This year was already going to be a bit of a downer because the last 2 winters we have gone on vacation but not this year. Last year we were literally days away from flying to Hawaii!!! The year before that it was disney. Those trips made winter a little more bearable.

This year no trip to look forward to and this winter seems to be worse than usual. I really wish I was headed to Hawaii again right now!!

  • I'm most definitely over this. Our daycare jumped the gun and told us Friday we'd be delayed yesterday (since it was supposed to be bitter cold then). Unfortunately I think they didn't want to upset parents by delaying again, so today was a normal day. Oh well. Bundled my girl up and got her there fine. Thank goodness it's at least sunny today!
  • I was far more tolerant of winter last year, and I think it was because it was still warm enough to get out for a run a few times a week.  This weather is not that type of winter for sure. I am over it.  Honestly the snow doesn't bother me, it is the darn arctic air lingering around.
  • Done. While I don't mind winter per se, I am over the cold. I would love not to have to dress like an eskimo to let my dogs out or to have to put coats on them either!

  • I have NEVER been a fan of winter, but this winter takes the cake.  I am lucky that I don't have to worry about where dd is going to go when school is cancelled or delayed but I am going crazy in this house with the kids all day.  They are bored and full of energy and I can't even send them outside.

It is sad that I got excited when I saw 37 degrees on the forecast for Saturday.

  • YES! Though I'm more over being inside all the time. Logan has had this awful cold for a good week now, so I'm hesitant to take him out and I think we both have cabin fever. Is it Spring yet?

  • Me! Between the cold weather and our semi-quarantine until DS is 3 months, I feel like I never leave the house except to run to the grocery store. So ready for it to be spring! I can't wait to be able to take DS places with me.
  • Me! I have seen enough snow to last me quite some time and these bitter cold temps are terrible! Also this is the 4th day the school has been closed! While I completely understand and mostly agree, it stinks that they are going to have to make all of these days up!

  • Oh yes,  I hate the winter in general, but this one has been brutal. We have an in-home day care, so she doesn't close or delay - but it's been awful dragging him and myself out in the cold.

Also G has some pretty serious cabin fever. He goes to DC Tues-Thurs and until this morning we hadn't left the house since we came home on Friday. He was so mischievous last night and I think it's b/c he's seriously under-stimulated.

  • The only thing I like about Winter is having a good excuse to stay inside and be lazy, but this is getting out of control!  It is definitely effecting my mood!

  • i am so tired of arguing with EJ about wearing appropriate clothes... I need normal cold temps back so she can wear leggins or tights and her light fleece jacket and still be reasonably warm. Why does her hate for warm clothes have to align with the coldest winter!?!?

My kid is still wearing leggings! My kid does not own any pants! well we did buy a couple sweatpants for soccer this weekend and she cried about them! First pair that I've bought it 3 years.
At least she likes her coat and hat (thank you Disney Frozen for your merchandise!)

I just like warmer weather because its less clothes to fight dd wearing. No worrying about leggings!

I didn't know these existed. I may need them.

Michael hates his mittens. It's an absolute battle to get them on, but if he doesn't wear them, he cries about cold hands. He doesn't yet grasp that the mittens will stop the cold hand problem. It's killing me.

Recs? I have a couple but don't love them and tried on a few others I didn't like. I do wear the ones I have and they are cozy. I need more for next year!

yes where do u get these?
  • I got them a few weeks ago from site similar to Zulily - it's called Jane.com. It looks like they're back in stock:

I'll warn you though, they're somewhat shiny - not quite like spandex  or a swimsuit - but along those lines. I didn't expect that and was surprised (although not bothered) when I got them.

Do any stores sell them? or just online?

  • I can't even imagine what all of you guys are going through. I hope you can enjoy some sun and wamer temps this weekend.

I'm just annoyed at the fact that schools down here closed Friday and yesterday due to freezing rain and ice on the roads. Some even went an cancelled today, too. Thankfully our district seems to be the last int he area to make the call, so there's not much overreacting on their part. I get that why they do it, but I still feel like it's a bit on the "excitable" side to do it.

It's great that I can work from home, but to do so with 3 kids underfoot is really tough. And I'm on two huge projects due next week, or else I would have used a vacation day yesterday.

Hang in there ladies - I really hope you can get some sun and warmer temps this weekend. Be careful and make sure you all get vitamin D in when you can!

  • I actually have tights I got at Francesca's. I have seen them lots of places including H&M, Target, Kohl's, Nordstrom. I have seen the tights at Marshall's and TJ Maxx also. They do have a bit of a sheen to them but it is tolerable since I usually wear them with boots and a dress.
