What's the craziest dream you remember?

So, last night, I dreamt of a strange neighborhood and a house belonging to someone I apparently knew.

In the backyard, full of mostly dead foliage, I saw, in quick succession 1, 2, 3 canaries dead on the ground. And 1 blue jay.

There was also a very kind Muslim woman who lived across the street, but I broke into her house looking for a trash bag (for the birds, IDK!!) and then I woke up.

I don't spend too much time on dream interpretation, because I rarely dream and don't ususally find they mean anything lasting, but do YOU ever dream crazy things?

What's the weirdest dream you can remember? Did it mean something at the time OR mean something else later?

Any theories on my dead birds?

tl;dr : Tuesday, you be so cray.

Re: What's the craziest dream you remember?

  • My sister drove us off a cliff because she was too busy trying to get a spot off of the windshield instead of paying attention to the road.  I woke up just as we went over.

I get what it meant now, but not at the time.

Usually, dreaming about a dead bird means an aspiration or dream has died and the dreamer is thinking about it.

My husband thinks I'm a bit off.  It's very often in my dreams that I'm stabbed or shot.  I blame it on the books I read (Urban Fantasy, Horror, Paranormal, etc)

I still remember one from childhood where I fell off a boat and was pinched by hundreds of lobsters.

    ETA for spelling and clarity.

    LOBSTERS!

I wonder if people who pay attention to dreams have lobster theories!
  • I had a dream the other night about a glowing rainbow colored frog getting into an apartment I shared with an old roommate and a few of her friends who I have only met once. It really had no meaning.  At least I can't think of any.

Someone told me this morning (trying to make me feel better, I'm sure) that it could be a FEAR of an aspiration/dream dying. And not necessarily prophetic that a dream has died.

I have way too many dreams in the fire to abide them dropping dead like little birdies. Come ON, dreams! HOLD IT TOGETHER!
  • @MrsJenE's dream reminds me of one I had a few years ago. I dreamed that I went Christmas shopping with my Dad.  We were finishing and loading up the car which was parked at the top level of a parking garage.  We both get in and he droves (purposefully) off the edge of it.  As it goes in dreams, it's more like the edge of a bridge instead of a parking garage and it's a least a 200 foot drop.  I woke up on the way down.

    That one really upset me.

  • I remember one from childhood.  My neighbor and I were playing outside while my mom and his mom talked at the picnic table, which was set up near our old porch for some reason.  Not where it usually was farther out in the yard.  They were talking about my grandfather and saying something about his blood being blue.  Like someone had cut him open and found primary blue blood running in him.  And then an airplane crashed in the yard.  Weird.

I had another one when I was a kid that involved me standing in the hallway of my grandparents' house and being trapped by walls.  Everywhere I turned, there was a wall.

I had a fun one while wedding planning.  MH and I were being chased by terrorists that were bound and determined to stop us from getting married.  At one point, we were running through the kitchens of our venue in full wedding attire.

I tend to dream of fire a lot.  From behind the flames so that I'm looking out.

That's totally possible.  I was just quoting directly from a Huffington Post article.  LOL!

Thinking of it now, lobsters is an odd choice.  I live in New England, but lived in Ohio as a kid, so why lobsters? You'd think sharks or something like that would have been the obvious choice.

I hope we have a resident dream expert around here!

  • I rarely remember dreams.  The only one I do remember is a recurring one I have when I'm stressed out where all of my teeth splinter into pieces in my mouth.  ::shudder::  I hate that one.

  • PW here.

Do you believe that people can visit others in dreams?  My dreams are usually vivid and never in a place where I currently reside.  In this dream, a person who recently passed away (maybe a year or so before) came into my bedroom and just kind of sat there.  We didn't talk, which doesn't surprise me since we didn't know each other THAT well.  I was viewing it as if I was sitting on top of my headboard, so slightly above eye level, and I could see that I was sleeping.  It feels sort of arrogant to assume he would visit me, but I've never dreamed about him before or since.

Yep! I have that one on the regular. It's a horrible dream!  Someone told me once it's sign of a change in health condition, but I obviously don't know if there's any truth to that.

    I absolutely do.

  • I had a dream the other day that my boss (whose last day was the day before I dreamed this, so she was on my mind) that I loved was brutally murdered during a work meeting and everyone was crying.  I actually started crying when I left work that day when she gave me a hug, so I was sad/having the pg hormones.

I used to have a recurring dream when I was a kid where I was a grown-up and lived in a blue townhouse and rode the subway.  There was nothing spectacular about it, I would make coffee in the kitchen, then leave and walk to the train.

I always have falling dreams.  Not big-time-falling like you guys, but falling like I'm walking down the sidewalk and trip over my own feet and fall flat on my face.  It makes me jump in my sleep and wakes me up.

    image
  • I have weird dreams regularly. I love sleep primarily for the wacky stuff that goes on in my brain, so I can't pick out any really weird one in particular.

    But as for reoccurring dreams...
Dreams of being chased and having to use elevators to escape happens a lot. Also the flying dreams. Though those two dreams often coincide. But my flying is more like floating. Standing up you let yourself fall backwards, and poof! You're up in the air.

  • I had this super weird dream that I died at the Alamo with Charlie Sheen.

I also remember this dream that I was in a house with millions of black cats and half of the cats were evil and the other half were good.  I had to separate the evil cats from the good cats and put the evil cats on one side of the house and the good cats on the other side of the house and then burn down the half of the house with the evil cats.

  • A few months ago (I think I had just finished Warm Bodies) I had a dream that my cat and I got turned into zombies and they decided to teach us how to hunt. My cat smelled "food" and took off without me which made me completely distraught. And I apparently still had morals because I couldn't bring myself to eat anyone and started hyperventilating about it (I think in real life) and in my dream it sounded like that zombie growling noise. I freaked out so much I woke myself up.

  • I have two that really stand out:

1- Years ago I dreamed that I was at my grandma's house (she died when I was 4, but when I described this dream to my mom she was shocked at how accurate my memory was) and a friend had come over. I was panicking inside because the basement door was cracked open. I knew that we had a horrible secret in the basement and I didn't want her to venture down there. It was all I could think about.

After she left, I went downstairs and a whole wall was covered in drawers. I opened one and it was filled with human fingers. I knew, as you do in dreams, that our family was killing people, storing the body parts and eating them. It was horrifying.

2- I have had a reoccurring dream my entire adult life that my mom goes to the doctor, gets a mildly bad diagnosis and is told that she can come in Thursday and they will "put her down" like they do dogs. I freak totally out, trying to get her to tell them no, to run away, anything, but everyone else is so calm about the whole thing and are just like, "Oh, this is just what has to happen." In the dream, my mom is still healthy, walking around, talking and I just can't believe that she is going to give up. It is the worst dream ever, just that feeling of panic and urgency to make her change her mind.

  • I once had a dream that my dad was buttering people up with a giant basting brush and throwing them into an incinerator.
  • I have a recurring dream where I'm dead and go back and haunt all of my loved ones and no one misses me.

  • I had the craziest dream last night that involved Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Justin Bieber, Chris Delia, Twinkies, a presidential funeral procession and me learning how to film a "drop shot" of Selena Gomez performing at an awards show.
