Who leaves their car running in a parking lot?

i know it's cold out, but when I stopped at Getgo for a drink on the way to work this morning, in the parking lot of about 8 cars, three were running with no one inside, and the keys in the ignition. I know it's cold, but I can't imagine doing that today.

This Getgo was in Fox Chapel, where no one would ever consider stealing anything :P, but I'm not that trusting.

  • people with good insurance? then again with the push start cars you can leave it running and take the key with you.  (I did that once running to the ATM on a hot day with Mo in the car... so I left him inside with the AC running)
  • Well I have a remote start so I will start my car when I walk out...but no keys in the ignition!

  • I'm paranoid about leaving my car running in my own driveway, but I have a knack for always expecting the worse!

  • I miss my remote starter. I was so preplexed by the running cars I made a point to peek inside, particularly since I parked next to one running car. It was on when I parked, I went inside, got my drink and paid, and it was still running when I left. That person had one long getgo visit.

  • Who knows why people do what they do.  I've seen people leave small children in the car at dd's school.  Like they take big sis into school and leave a little one in the car.  I know they are only going to be gone for  a few minutes but you can't even see the parking lot from inside of school.

  • I use my remote start but I would never leave my keys in the car, especially there. So easy to steal and be on the highway before anyone knew they were gone.

I never found that MTOs were too quick to be made!

Maybe they have a backup set of keys with them, too? I used to carry my second set with me and do that in the Winter, so that I could keep the car warm when picking up the baby from daycare.

You all have to be popsicles up there right now. I mean, it's freakin' cold down here, but man... I do feel for you guys. :(

This is a good idea!  I had to leave mine running for 45 minutes the other night since the battery was getting recharged after a jump.  I went back into the house during the 45 minutes telling myself it was too cold for a thief to bother (but still a little nervous).
