False positive?

So as I posted on the 25th. I very clearly had a BFP. It wasn't just a faint line. It was there, no question. On Thursday AF started. My doctors office tested my levels and said they were below 5, so not pregnant.

Now they are calling it a false positive, which I would understand more if the line was faint. It just doesn't make sense to me. Has anyone else had issues with tests like this? I kind of feel cheated.

Re: False positive?

  • I have no experience, but wanted to say sorry.
  • There really aren't false positives. If you read the test within the specified timeframe and it was positive, it was likely what they call a chemical pregnancy.

    I'm sorry.

  • False positives don't really happen if your test is done properly. My guess would be you may have had a chemical pregnancy, but I'm no doctor. I'm sorry you're going through this.

This is what I thought. But since they didn't use that term I really wasn't sure.

  • I'm sorry :( That really sucks.

I had a false positive once several years ago so I know they do happen. And it was at the OB's office so if it was user error, it was their fault. There was very obviously a line. They sent me straight to the lab and bw came back negative. I think they're super, super rare and probably a faulty test issue, but they do happen.

Regardless, I'm sorry you had to go through that. :( Hoping you get a bfp/sticky baby soon

  • I really hate the term too. It frustrates me. And I think the most annoying part about this whole thing is that my in laws now know for sure we are trying. They want grand children badly and it gets annoying. So I may lose it the next time they bring it up!

  • I'm sorry, that has to be a huge letdown. I never had any false positives, just start whiteness for forever. Our parents knew we were trying and could be annoying so at a certain point I made it clear that questions were no longer welcome and that if we had anything to tell, that we'd tell it ourselves and to stop guessing.

  • I seriously doubt it was a false positive on a FRER. True false positives are extremely rare. Unfortunately it sounds like a CP to me. With one of mine my levels came back at 5.6 the first draw (barely positive, and I went in the day I had the BFP) and then nothing 2 days later. I'm irritated that the Dr. office is calling it a false positive. Seems insensitive. With my second CP the nurse called me after the second blood draw and said "looks like you're not pregnant after all." I was so mad.
