Whoa...Thankful you ladies are nice

Have you guys ever heard of BOAB?  I was wandering around the bump and they actually have threads called BOAB (bitch out a bumpie) where they call out the girls they don't like and basically bitch them out.  Officially never going to post over there!  These ladies are mean.  If I didn't like you guys, I just wouldn't get on this board at all.  I wouldn't gleefully type out your names and lambast you publicly.  I don't get it...who has time for that?

Also, the snarkiest ones are like lifted up by the others who encourage them in their snarkiness.  Cool, you're the baddest bitch of an online board that's supposed to be about getting pregnant.

  • Whoa, I occasionally post on my BMB, but I had NO idea that was happening. That makes me sad. Get a life, people.

  • Hmmm I lurk a lot on TTGP and haven't noticed a BOAB. There is a lot of snark and they have a Monday bitchfest thread. It's usually bitching about things in their lives and not other bumpies, but then again, I don't usually read those threads. I could never keep up with the quick responses and by the time I've responded about 1 thing, it's a page back and they are talking about something different.
I like the TTGP community because I've learned a lot and find some snark amusing, but I wouldn't like that sort of environment you are describing. I hope it's not the board I frequent, but who knows. I agree that I like this group of girls a lot. I just also like that group because TTC is where I am in my life and unfortunately consuming! Ha

  • I saw a few of them and did some research since I first posted, it looks like they were all a few years old and the bump actually kicked out some of the worst offenders--so that is heartening :)

Here were some examples: "I'm going to bitch out abcde because she always sticks up for other posters!"  "I'm picking adsfasdf for BOAB because she sounds dumb and her life is full of problems" etc.  So weird!!!

Glad to see that they put the kabosh on that ickiness.  Good job, whoever is in charge of the bump!!

  • Wow, that's pretty cray cray!  Like you said, who has time for that sort of crap?  I also wonder what these people are like in person and if they have any IRL friends.

There are a couple of boards that I've lurked on that some of the few frequent posters have shown major snarkyness to others, especially new posters.  It's like, jeez, do you even realize how much of a bitch you are, or worse, do you even care?  It's like they get a power trip out of being able to say whatever they want to strangers because it's over the internet.  I bet most of those women wouldn't have the guts to say the things they say to a persons face.

  • There is some serious snark on the big boards.  I learned to lurk - A LOT - before posting.

I learned so much from TTGP on TB, but I only really posted on the 2WW and W2O.  Some posts got CRAZY, they were entertaining to read sometimes... they have an art for gifs.

  • Just one word: Wow!

  • I spent a fair amount of time of TTGP last summer. They are very snarky, but honestly I enjoyed them immensely. On my bmb, it's a lot of stupid puppies and rainbows shit. I'm one of the snarkier posters on the bmb, and frankly I like it that way. But thebump has it's own community rules, I think it's easy to lurk and figure it out really quickly, but a lot of new posters don't bother taking the time to get to the know the lay of the land before they dive in.

  • Yeah I can totally get being annoyed by people who just post out of nowhere "do u think im pg??" with no knowledge of forum rules, but these posts were clearly women who took great pride in being unkind to internet strangers.  I mean, come on.  This is real, adult life, not freakin Mean Girls.  I get that not everything has to be wonderful and perfectly polite all the time, that's not real life, either.  But, I have to wonder if the anonymity of the internet makes people more inclined to be bitchy than they would in real life.  If a confused woman was standing right in front of them, scared or anxious about an impending pregnancy, would they call them out?  Even if the answer is yes...why?  I just can't wrap my head around it.  This isn't bitching about how your co worker/boss is a jerk, or some guy who cut you off in traffic, or DH being an idiot.

For me, at the end of the day, life is 100% about how we treat others, and I do not for the life of me understand the mentality behind the "Bitch Out a Bumpie" board.  I've seen some enjoyable snarkiness on other boards, but that one just really crossed a line for me.
