WIJFR: Where'd You Go Bernadette (SP)

Uhm... so Elgin impregnated his assistant and at the end it was just... forgotten about?  How do you ignore a pregnancy/baby?!  I don't know what I was expecting exactly, but it just seems like the topic kind of went away at the end in the interest of wrapping up the story nicely.

Did I miss something?  Anyone else have thoughts on this?  It really rubbed me the wrong way for some reason.

  • It's been awhile since I read this but I remember that irking me too. Not enough to change my rating of the book, but I was bothered a bit.

    Pregnancy Ticker
  • Yeah, I was not cool with that at all either. I guess in the scheme of things, what Bernadette did was just as much contributing to the breakdown of their marriage without the physical consequences of a baby. I guess in the crazy mixed up mess of a relationship, they just decided to deal with it and still make things work somehow?

  • I'm one of the few people who hated the book.  This is partly why.
  • This book was my answer for the disappointing endings poll the other day.

For awhile after the pregnancy was revealed in the book I KNEW the assistant was delusional.  There kept being signs pointing to the fact that the pregnancy was real and I just remained in denial.

I do feel like I remember Bernadette referencing something about understanding about the pregnancy or something in the last few pages but yeah I agree it was not wrapped up well.

  • I gave it 3 stars because I liked the writing and the main character, but I had a lot of issues with the ending. Things were just too neatly tied up and not really addressed.
