NBR: Who's at work?

So, did anyone else have to dig their car out from under the ice and snow and drive, really carefully, to work?

We've only got a level 2 snow emergency here, so I had to at least make the attempt.  I succeeded.  Oh yay.  My hubby is lucky and can work from home.

I am amused about one thing though.  Last week Ohio State closed due to the cold but Columbus State Community College only delayed classes until 11am.  Today, OSU is open and CSCC is closed.  I guess CSCC is more worried about students getting to campus than freezing once they get there.  Of course I don't have classes tonight, so it doesn't affect me at all.

Maybe it'll be worse tomorrow and we'll actually get up to level 3!  No work, no class.  I could handle a Thursday holed up at home.  I've got vacation time I can use. :D

Re: NBR: Who's at work?

  • I am at work.  I hitched a ride with my husband who conveniently works right down the street.  I love having a built in chauffer on days like this.

  • I'm working from home, the storm just started this morning but I didn't want to drive in if I didn't have to, and nothing beats working in your PJs and a having no commute.

  • Me! DH took the day off so I made him get up early and drive me to the train station :-)

  • I'm at home trying to muster up the courage to leave the house (I live in Iowa). I HATE driving in the snow and my car is awful in it, plus I have to drive my 13 month old across town to daycare, ugh I am just a ball of anxiety any time I have to leave the house these days. I called in sick yesterday. Nothing ever closes here.

  • I work from home every Wednesday so I'm in my PJ's in my office. But I would have had to attempt to go in if it was one of my office days.

I hope everyone is safe out there!

  • I'm at work and the roads were not good at all on my way in.  I got stuck in my drive way backing out today.  I guess its my fault.  I made no effort to shovel it.  I figured if I backed out quickly enough I could just plow over the snow lol.  I would have made it too if it weren't for that pile of snow that the plow kicked up at the end of the driveway.

    @jjr1214 I'm in Iowa too!

DH had to go in to work this morning, they never close for anything. I am not scheduled to work until Friday, but if I was scheduled today I would be there since the hospital never closes either :)

The dog was supposed to go to the vet today but I just rescheduled. Emma and I aren't going anywhere today!

Has it really been that bad of a winter? I can only think of one or two days that were that bad.  I know that I don't have to think of the safety of thousands of children going to school or anything, but I don't feel like this winter, so far, has been that much worse than others.

Perhaps I'm just glossing over the winter and dreaming too hard about spring to notice?

Here it has been bad.  We're normally are at something like 25 inches of snow at this point of winter and this year we've had over 60 inches plus all the freezing temperatures.  After a few mild winters, everyone is freaking out.

Schools have had 4 snow/cold days already and they are now tacked on to the end of the school year.  An old friend is getting married June 14.  The last day of school was supposed to be June 4.  She now has to work until June 12.  Oops.

It hasn't necessarily been bad here snow-wise, but they have cancelled schools a lot here due to dangerous wind chills. There has been a ton of school cancellations just since Christmas break. Today our school cancelled due to snow/wind chills (but the metro schools are still open, of course).

I have heard about Chicago a lot this year.  Especially with the cold.  But yesterday I could see grass in parts of my yard.  Maybe it's regional?  I wonder, when does Chicago start school in the fall?  June 12 seems to early to me. We've gone until almost July.  Though it's entirely possible it's because we start later here.

The schools here are being overly cautious but my nephew has had cancellations quite a few times this year already.  In fact, they cancelled on Monday AND today.  He had a snow day last week as well.  There have been other days too.
