WIJFR: Into the Still Blue (NS)

I loved this series, and I loved this book. The other two were Under the Never Sky and then Through the Ever Night. Despite their somewhat awkward titles, I think the books were well written, with great character and relationship development, and overall the story and the world were fleshed out nicely.

...unlike some other YA dystopian trilogies I could mention. (cough-Divergent-cough)

Definitely recommend this series!!

Re: WIJFR: Into the Still Blue (NS)

  • I need to read this one. I really enjoyed the first two books, and I have the third, but I was afraid the series might end disappointingly. Glad to hear it doesn't!

  • I enjoyed the first two but haven't gotten to this one yet. I am looking forward to it!

  • Please let us all know what you think, @BabyRN2006 and @sfgiantsjo. I hope you like it as much as I did.

I have one word for you: Roar. Oh wait, another: Perry.  Two swoon-worthy characters. :)
  • I'm about half way through this right now and so far it has not disappointed. I love this series and Perry, Aria and Roar so much.

  • So how typical YA dystopian is this series?

I feel like the market is flooded and I am not interested in the genre as a whole anymore. But I would give it a go if it was a different read and worth it.

  • @aggiebug To me it has much more light sci-fi/ fantasy feel than dystopian. I was pretty over dystopians when I picked it up and was pleasantly surprised to find this series broke out of that mold. It does have a future setting that's less than ideal for those living there, but it's not a fight-the-government, save-the-world kind of situation. Have you ever read Maria V. Snyder's work? I think if you like her books, you'd like these too.

  • I can't wait to read the last installment. I really enjoyed the first two.

  • There are some decidedly not YA things about this series (I don't want to point out what, because that might be spoilery), so if that's what you're tired of, then you might want to give it a try. (There are some other typical coming of age type issues as well, though.)

What I liked was that the world building made sense to me. The premise (the whole, "why is the world the way it is") wasn't overly complicated (see: Divergent) or too simplistic to make sense (see: Matched or even Delirium to some degree), and it just ... didn't make me scratch my head in a "this is ridiculous" kind of way (as in The Maze Runner).

I also just think it was well done. Great characters, great relationships, amazing scenery.

The only thing I'd recommend to those not reading it straight through ... I could have used a spoilery summary of the previous two books before I started this one, because to some degree I forgot who was who.

  • This sounds right up my alley. I just requested the whole series.

  • I'm so glad to hear positive reviews for this book. I've been holding off reading it because I was worried I wouldn't like how the series ended, I can't wait to read it now.

    Thank you
@j*&p*  and @Leeba25 for the input.  I am ok with the coming of age aspect of YA I just feel like they might be almost same story different verse? maybe?  I have had a hard time articulating it.  Maybe it is ithe "fight the government, save the world" aspect you mentioned j&p that is tiresome.

I think I will put this on my tbr list :)

  • I've been following you guys talking about this series wondering what's gotten into all of you.  I *swore* I'd read the first book and it was completely awful.

I just checked my lists and I had it confused with Halo by Alexandra Adornetto, who is of course someone completely different who wrote a completely different book.  I have no idea how I mixed the two books up so badly.
