WIJFR: The Twelve by Justin Cronin (PA/horror) (NS)

Ignore the fact that it took me forever to finish this book.  It's been my lunchtime book that I left at the office, so my reading depended greatly on if I decided to go to the office that day and how long I could get away without anybody bothering me.

I gave The Passage - the first book - 5 stars.  It is one of my very favorite books.  The Twelve is the sequel, and I gave it 4 stars.  He does an exellent job pulling the reader into a decimated future, creates characters that you love, and is an all-around excellent author.

Plus I met him at a book signing and he's super nice.  :)

  • So, I want to be as spoiler-free as possible here... but does The Twelve even have all the same characters?  How long after the first one does it take place?

These are things I haven't quite been able to figure out from the summaries, and I've been hesitant to pick this one up because I was so pissed at the end of the first one.

  • @84Lauren - they are the same main characters.  I believe The Twelve begins 5 years after The Passage is over.

  • I really wanted to love this series but I had to give up on The Passage. maybe 1/3 of the way through.  I was listening to it and found myself so confused and it was so long that continuing just seemed so daunting.

  • I loved The Passage!  I didn't like The Twelve as much, but it was still good.

IIRC The Twelve really jumps around a lot, right?  It's not a linear story.  And there are a ton of characters.  I had trouble keeping all the story lines straight and I love books with tons of characters.
