Buddy Read: Legend by Marie Lu (SP up to Part 2)

@menrandes I didn't see you start a thread, so I figured I would start it.

Wow. I like this book. I like how there have been at least two parts where I was totally shocked and didn't see anything coming. First, when Metias died. I was so shocked and in disbelief. When it was in Day's POV, he thought he hit Metias in the shoulder, so when it switched to June and she found out that he died, I was definitely caught off guard. At first I thought I was wrong and that I read something wrong, but in the scene at the end at Day's families house, when Day looked around for Metias, it confirmed that he had no idea that he had killed her brother.

I am interested to find out how June will learn that he doesn't know and never actually intended to kill Metias.

I kind of like the connection between June and Day and I am waiting for that moment when June finds out (if/how) that the Republic isn't what she thinks it is. I think when Commander Jameson had Day's mother killed, that is going to be the turning point for June's allegiance towards the Republic. That was the second part that shocked me. It came out of nowhere and I didn't expect that at all. I also thought Day would get away when he was trying to make an aversion, not get caught.

I wonder if Day will somehow escape, or if June will maybe figure out a way to get him out. I am also wondering about Tess....I wonder if June will go back for her and find her some protection or something.

I am definitely shocked at the way that part ended....

I think the two POVs are good. Sometimes the 2 POV can be really bad (re: Allegiant) or I don't really like it because I feel like you miss stuff, but so far, this feels very well written.

Thoughts?

    Glad you like it!

Sorry, I've been on mobile all week so I didn't see your last message!  Is there a way to check messages on mobile?  I've looked but haven't found anything.

So far, I'm loving this book.  When we initially split it up into 6 part sections, I think we both discovered that it was difficult to read with such short chunks at a time!

I will admit that initially I mixed up the sexes of the two main characters.  It was probably a combination of being tired and being used to dystopian fiction having a female main character.  Day's section being the first chapter threw me a little.

I agree with everything you said, though I feel like Day and June's romance happened very quickly after that met.
Being inside the minds of both characters, June's betrayal causes me actual discomfort because I knew the reasoning and motivation behind Day's crimes.

I am looking forward to finding out more about the plague, particularly what is going on with Eden.
What does the symbol on the door mean??  What do the numbers mean!!!??

Oh right! I forgot to mention those.....

I am thinking that Eden was purposefully given that strand of the plague....and I am thinking that it has something to do with water...or something. Just thinking of the "gurgling tank" thing and thinking maybe some of the water systems are affected? .....but then, wouldn't his whole fam be infected? Hmmm.......I still can't believe they killed his mom....Just after she figured out that Day was still alive. Big sad face. But I guess now Day and June are even. Day killed Metias. June pretty much caused the death of Day's mom.

  • I'm on the third book in this series and I'm REALLY am enjoying the entire story.  I mean, I gave the second book 5 stars - that is a rarity for me!

I think the dual POVs are extremely well done.

@kinmir30 I remember reading the Metias died and I was like, "No, it's probably just a trick.  Or the author is saying he died but he really didn't in a few pages."  **insert shock**
