Need some app and dessert ideas

Hi ladies!
We are having a housewarming party in the spring.  I'm trying to create a menu so I can plan a budget.  I'm hoping to have a bunch of apps and a deli platter, plus desserts.

I think I need some vegetarian apps to round things out a bit.  Any suggestions?

Also, I'm not the biggest dessert person, so I could use some suggestions.  I'm going to make brownies and a poppyseed cake that's popular in my family.  Any suggestions?  Maybe something that could be made in small bites?

Re: Need some app and dessert ideas

  • These savoury pinwheels are a great vegetarian option and can be prepared in advance.

Maybe cream puffs could be an option for a bite-sized dessert?

  • To me, you can't go wrong with putting out a cheese board with some great cheeses, meats, dried fruit, olives and nuts.  Everybody usually likes chips and guacamole too.

If you like s'mores, take some of those two bite brownies and top them with a marshmellow.  Broil them in the oven for a few minutes until they are melted and golden and them top with butterscotch sauce.

  • Apps: cheeseboard, hummus, spinach & artichoke dip, tomato/mozzarella/basil on a stick, Swedish or Italian meatballs, veggie and/or fruit platter with dip, deviled eggs, pigs in a blanket, veggie tarts on puff pastry.
    Desserts: cookies, brownies, cupcakes

  • I definetely agree on a good cheeseboard- that's a must.

I love the cream puff idea- I have a good recipe too.  Anybody want to share their favorite cupcake recipe?
