Lafayette???

My husband has received a generous job offer between two offices in Lafayette and West Lafayette. We currently live in Southern Illinois and while we don't love it and there's not really much to do in our home town we are close to family. We use to live near Edwardsville and loved it. They have coffee shops, small boutiques, farmers markets, festivals, pubs, bookstores, cafes, and thrift stores and to top it off wineries nearby.  My husband and I are not partiers by any means but we do love food and visiting hole in the wall restaurants and cafes, grabbing coffee, crafting, spending a day at the winery with friends..  These are things that we love to do. They don't exist here in our hometown and the nearest place is over an hour away. So I guess my question is.. How is Lafayette for a young married couple?  We are 24 and 26.  Based on our hobbies and things that we love is it a desirable place to live?  How are living costs?  We would be renting for at least a year to make sure we love the area first. If anyone has and feedback that would be amazing!  Blessings and happy nesting!

Re: Lafayette???

  • DH and I are 31 & 28, and were just having this convo the other night! Thanks to Purdue, there are a lot of bars around here, so if you like bar hopping, you're set. Lafayette is cheaper to live in than West Lafayette - the homes are a bit older on this side of the bridge, so they have more character, and the taxes are lower. We haven't purchased, but we rent from my parents at the moment. I've never lived outside of Lafayette (born & raised here), but DH is from Nashville, IL and says prices are comparable. Our farmers markets run from May to October, there's Mosey Down Main Street every other week or so in the summer, plus the Taste of Tippecanoe (restaurants set up booths and you can taste test everything, live music, etc). I'm more than happy to answer anything I can, just ask! And welcome to the area!

What, if I may ask, is the job?
