I got to meet Robin Sloan yesterday!
He wrote "Mr. Penumbra's 24-Hour Bookstore", which I enjoyed well enough, but didn't LOVE. After hearing him read from it, and talk about it for a bit, I appreciate it so much more. If you get a chance to see him, DO IT. Guys, he's fascinating! He's really into typography, and the history of the book itself.
The talk I went to was actually entitled "Books and Technology: Friends or Foes", but Sloan discussed how books really ARE technology. He told a story about seeing an original Aldus Manutius octovo at the Grolier Club in New York, and his descriptions were like porn for book lovers. I really NEED to visit the Grolier Club - add that to my bucket list! He talks about Manutius and Griffo as if they are good friends of his, and it's easy to get swept up in his enthusiasm.
Anyhow, just booknerd fangirling here.
