Oyster Books?

Is anyone using this? It looks so appealing, but I haven't heard anything about it. It's like Netflix for books, which would save me a TON of money. I know some books won't be available on there because I read a lot of authors only through Kindle, which is fine. Anyone have any info? Love it? Hate it?

Re: Oyster Books?

  • Isn't this just like a library? Except it costs money?

  • Well, kinda, I guess. Except you don't have to wait for the books I don't think. And they have a lot of new releases. And I don't think you have a time limit to read the books, which can be an issue for me.

My library has such long waiting times for books!

  • Ohhhh, that makes sense.

I probably wouldn't pay for it, but I don't care if I've read the most recent books.

  • Well, I'm just thinking that a new release, even a digital copy, is typically more than $9.95, which is the cost for a month on this Oyster, so just that might make it worth it if it's any good. There's a few authors I enjoy reading as soon as the book is released, if that makes sense.

I'm using it and enjoying it, but it's mostly backlist titles and not new releases. The main benefits for me are that there are a lot of titles my library doesn't own in eBook form and there's no wait list or time limit for reading. I've enjoyed using it so far and have found a ton of books to read! But just be aware that it's older books. I think the newest books I've found on there were released last fall. ETA: You can do a free 1-month trial and cancel if it's not something you think you'll continue using. I think I read 5 books during my free trial period!

  • Thanks so much for that! As soon as I'm finished reading the book I've already started, I'm going to sign up for the free trial. :)
