Jamaica anyone?

My H and I are planning one last big trip before our baby arrives and we are debating on whether to go back to Secrets in Playa Del Carmen, or go to Jamaica instead for a new experience.

Secrets has 2 resorts in Jamaica, but Sandals has a few resorts there as well. Has anyone here a) been to Jamaica and b) if so, stayed at either resort that can give an opinion?

Also trying to decide whether to stay for a whole week or just go for like 5 nights instead. It's going to be our last big trip for a while, so maybe a week would be the best idea.

Re: Jamaica anyone?

  • We've been to Jamaica once (Sandals Negril) and are headed back next month (Sandals Whitehouse).
I have a review and pics from Negril in the link above my siggy pic. Just as an FYI Sandals Negril is under renovation at the moment so some of my pics may no longer be accurate.
I will have a review and pics from Whitehouse (same link) by the end of March.

  • We're headed to Sandal's Grande Riveara in June...for our 2-year delayed honeymoon. We've never been before, but anyone I've talked to said it's fantastic.

  • We just had a destination wedding in Montego Bay, Jamaica and it was the BEST vacation we ever had! We stayed at the Iberostar Rose Hall Suites and it was by far the best resort I have ever been to! I read several reviews on resorts before choosing one for our wedding/vacation and this one always ranked way higher than Sandals resorts. If you stay at the Iberostar Grand it is adults only. Everyone in Jamaica is SO friendly and helpful. They totally made the vacation what it was! I would choose Jamaica over Mexico any day.
  • After we booked our trip I had someone recommend Iberostar over Sandals. I'm still happy with our choice, we got an amazing deal, their estimate was 10K with airfare (inflated I know) we're paying less than 4K with airfare for 7 nights.

  • Were there a lot of obnoxious young singles acting like idiots at Iberostar?  I was leaning more towards couples only resorts, as opposed to just adults only.  I prefer places a little more laid back and quiet as opposed to being filled with party animals.

Whitehouse was amazing! We are already booked to go back next year.
Very detailed review and lots of pics in the link above my siggy pic.

  • I have no idea if there were crazy singles at Iberostar.  We just got back from Sandals Grand Riviera, it was fantastic...however about 95% of the people there were on their honeymoon...potentially just as annoying.

Heh.  I think I'd take that over the obnoxious singles....

  • I just got back from my honeymoon at the Jewel Dunn's River in Ocho Rios, Jamaica, and it was amazing! Super relaxing and peaceful, but still enough activities to stay entertained for 5 days.
