OC Maryland

Anyone familiar with OC Maryland?  I think that's where we're heading for vacation this year.  I was there once for senior week in HS and DH went there all the time as a kid, but that was forever ago.  I'm not sure even which areas to look at for rentals.

Re: OC Maryland

  • We go every year.  I prefer to stay on the boardwalk, just because I like to park my car and not really have to move it much during the week.   I like further down the boards though (8th St and further down), and not in the more "carnivalish" area at other end (7-1st streets).   I've stayed off of the boards a few times (somewhere in the 52nd street area and once in the 100's area).   Those are nice, too, the beaches are a little quieter and a little less crowded - but you almost have to drive to dinner every night or even just to grab icecream or something.   It really just depends on what you prefer.  I would not recommend staying at any place that is a couple of blocks off of the beach - those tend to be the more cheaper places and a lot of them look like fire traps.  I also wouldn't want to cross the highway to go to the beach with two little kids.

Thanks!  And I too would prefer to park my car and leave it.  Any favorite places you've stayed at?

  • We've gone every year since 1990 and rent an ocean front condo. We usually stay around 90th street. If you don't mind taking the bus, you can park your car and forget it.

  • my parents have a place in west ocean city/Ocean Pines area so we always stayed there growing up. its a 10 minute drive to the beach/boardwalk. i suppose that is a little bit of a pain but i'm used to it. you get more for your money accommodation-wise outside of the city. so just depends what you want to do but you could rent a house in west ocean city and drive in for the beach for the day and then drive back for the boards.  or you could stay in a small condo right in the city.
  • We went with the girls last summer (4 and 2 at the time). They loved the beach and boardwalk. We stayed at the very end where the amusement park is located. It was great because we didn't have to drive anywhere and all the fun kid stuff is right out the hotel door. We stayed at The Atlantic, which is very reasonable for being on the boardwalk. It's not like staying at a fancy hotel or condo, but we were only there to sleep anyways.
