Which sink do you prefer? Why?

We can't decide on a sink, which is causing us to not be able to decide on a counter top.
These are the two choices, one is an overmount apron front sink, the other undermount.

We could do undermount and laminate counter tops, but I'm not sure how well I like it. And I'm not sure I like the overmount sink enough to go with that. Neither myself or my husband feels strongly about it. What do you prefer and why?

Re: Which sink do you prefer? Why?

  • Undermount.  You can sweep crumbs off of your counters, and into your sink without any particles getting stuck in a crack, or in the grout of an overmount sink.

I think undermount sinks have been rising in popularity lately.
  • Definitely undermount. I think it's a cleaner more streamlined look. However, I think you need to splurge on something nicer than laminate countertops if you are going to go with the apron front sink which I think is a more high end look.

  • agreed, undermount, specifically because of being able to wipe crumbs from the counter easily.

And I definitely agree, going with that higher end sink you should really consider a nicer counter than laminate. if you're choosing laminate to save money don't get an apron sink.

  • We're trying to figure out all our information and prices, before making a decision. Most likely if we go with laminate it won't be the undermount, because I'm not sure about how water resistant the edges will be.

  • I like the look of the over mount sink, however, as the previous posters mentioned, the under mount sink may be easier to clean. Are they both made of the same material or is one more scratch resistant than the other?

  • II agree with @jenlffer; the overmount looks much nicer, but I imagine the undermount would be easier to clean. If like me, you don't cook very much, I'd definitely go for the overmount, but if you do, then the undermount is probably better.
  • Thanks @AllieAlba....Hadn't thought of it that way. We are constantly cooking and in the kitchen. :-)

  • I vote undermount for easy of cleaning counters. I like being able to wipe the stuff from my counters into the sink for easier cleaning.
  • Love the idea of undermount for easy cleaning!  Unless you obsessively love the look of the overmount, I think the long term ease of cleaning would outrank the aesthetics.

Definitely, I would go with under-mount for easy cleaning.
