Totally Random BR: Books with Maps

I find that I love books with maps inlcuded in them, maps of this world or imaginary ones. I just started In the Garden of Beasts by Erik Larson and when I saw the maps of Berlin, I got all excited for some reason.

Re: Totally Random BR: Books with Maps

  • I love maps and family trees in books. It's that extra something that makes it more special!
  • My husband says that a book is only good if there is a map in the front hahaha

  • I am so directionally challenged that I can accept maps for their beauty but not their utility.

A map wouldn't help me find my way from my house to my work, much less from the Shire to Mordor.  I need my iPhone to give me step by step directions. LOL

Have I told you lately that I love you?

    Because I love you.

  • Maps in books serve absolutely no purpose for me. I look at them once when I'm starting the book and then make up a new map that serves my vision of the story in my head.

  • That's my only argument against books like LOTR and GOT in e-format.  I love to flip back and forth between the story and the maps, and it's a much bigger PITA to do that in e-book than in a tangible book.  I lurve maps so hard.

There's a store in Savannah, GA, that carries old maps and prints.  DH and I spent quality time there on our honeymoon and came away with three for our house that we have framed.  We also picked up an old map reprint of VA at Monticello and had it framed.  LOVE!

I totally agree. I printed the one for In the Garden of Beasts. On my work printer. In color. :)
