WIJFLT: The Crimson Crown (Seven Realms series spoilers!)

Finally!  It took a week longer than it should have, but I finished yesterday.  I LOVED this book, it was my favorite of the series.  I loved how everything came together.

I never expected Nightwalker!  He was a little creepy, but he always seems so stiff and square, I didn't expect him to be the one behind everything.  I'm so glad that Bird turned against him in the end.  The Demonai (am I spelling that right?) were always the worst "faction" in my head, because I hated how closed minded they all were, so I was glad to see them taken down a peg, but it was too bad that Raisa's father had to be a part of that.  He seemed like one of the good ones.

I have such a crush on Han.  I want this whole thing to be a movie or series or something so I can watch all of this play out in front of me.  I'm so glad I stuck with the series, and thank you guys so much for recommending it!  I could talk about it all day.

Re: WIJFLT: The Crimson Crown (Seven Realms series spoilers!)

  • Seriously.  One of the best final books of a series ever.  SERIOUSLY.
    75 Books in 2015?

    It's slippery as waterweed.
  • I loved this series so hard! My only complaint was that Amon got the shaft. I'm a sucker for nice guys, and I wish he at least loved the girl he ended up with.

YES!!  Poor Amon.  As much as I love the bad boys, I really had a thing for Amon in this series (which is sooooooo not like me).
    90 books in 2015?

  • Yeah, I did feel bad for Amon.  It wasn't fair that as much as he loved Raisa, the whole binding thing ruined that.  And it was just sprung on him after growing up with Raisa and being her best friend and having all that time to fall in love with her, and then BOOM!  If you try and kiss her it will physically hurt you.  Sad.  Do you think he really didn't love Anamaia, though?  Maybe I'm just telling myself that he did because it makes it seem like a happier ending for him.

ps - I'm probably murdering the spelling of everyone's names, and I do apologize for that!  Downfalls of audiobooks, I suppose.
  • This one was definitely my favorite of the series, and I'm glad @hoycie made me read it!

"People talk about escapism as if it's a bad thing... Once you've escaped, once you come back, the world is not the same as when you left it. You come back to it with skills, weapons, knowledge you didn't have before. Then you are better equipped to deal with your current reality."

  • LOVED this series!

Ok, here is my only complaint (and what I wanted to say on your last post) - after all those hot make-out scenes, a fade-to-black on Han and Raisa finally having sex!  WHAT THE MOTHER EFF.  I mean I get it... but not really.  We had this whole long debate about whether or not they had sex that night in the atrium or whatever, and then @taylormillgirl with her author-y connections asked CWC and she confirmed that yes, they did have sex that night before Han took off.  It was THAT obscure, that we didn't even know.  BS.

But, other than that - yes, perfection, haha!

LOL!  I remember that.  I think I said that they did have sex, but I was pissed that I was right.

Agreed!  I was pretty sure they had sex that night before Han left too, and was half expecting to find out that Raisa was already pregnant because of it (a la Hanalea and Alger).  But you're right, it was never clear, just sort of hinted at.  I guessed it was CWC's attempt at keeping the book PG or PG13 because it is supposed to be YA, after all.  Or letting the sex-before marriage issue stay just vague enough to avoid censors or something.  But there was that whole section at the end about Raisa's bed . . . and Han's bed . . .and in the rooftop garden . . . and Han thinking about just how many rooms there were in the castle . . . which was all a bit risque.

That's exactly right. In YA there are "gakekeepers" (librarians, parents, etc.), and some of them flip their shiz if there is sex in the book...even sex that fades to black and takes place off the page. That doesn't mean an author isn't allowed to write sex--there are plenty of other Hyperion books with it--but some authors don't want the hassle, so they keep the smexin' vague.

  • lol, that would be *gatekeepers. And it's not just sex. I've seen people on Goodreads leave 2-star reviews because a YA novel used God's name in vain.
