How to decorate this mantle!

I'm having such a hard time decorating my fireplace mantle. Our tv is hung above it, and it's pretty much the same width as the fireplace, so it's hard to put a lot on the ends. I need some advice!

  • Sorry it's sideways!

  • There isn't much space, so it does make it difficult to get creative!  I would probably get a set of brightly colored, matching votive candle holders.  Probably 7 or so.  Just line them up across the center of the mantle.

Or, you could get a variety of sizes (all still small enough not to cover the TV) of decorative balls.  Normally you see people place them in bowls, or large glass jars.  If you can find a way to secure them so they won't roll (a flat bottom, or securing them with a tacky material), you can fill the entire mantel with the variety of large, medium, and small orbs of different textures or colors that slightly overlap each other.  You could combine it with the idea above....orbs and candles covering the space.

The only other thought that I have is to hang a banner across the mantle - but then the decoration is under it - not on it.
  • Check out this pinterest board for inspiration: http://www.pinterest.com/mantelsdirect/fireplace-mantel-decor/ Basically you have to start with a theme- an interest, a color palate, etc. Picture frames of varying heights are always a good way to make it personal and then add little accent touches like candles or flora/fauna.
  • have you ever considered moving the TV? shopping a TV cabinet click here? with the tv on the fireplace, you can not put many things on it. Or you can buy wall mounted rack to solve the problem.

Gorgeous fireplace! Like the commenter above, I'm wondering if you could move the TV up a few inches? That would give you a bit more room to decorate and you could add some candles

If not, then you should focus on small decorations that aren't very tall. for example, this mercury glass bird: http://www.plaidparasol.com/home-decor/accessories/mercury-bird (I'm not sure what type of decorations you like but I personally think mercury glass is great for any type of home).

I like the floral garland you already have- maybe you could play around with that and try adding a few accent decorations mixed in with it?

    Good luck!
