Headed to Texas in June to see George Strait, and was wondering. Where should we go? I mean, we plan on going to Austin, but where should we go? What are must sees and dos? I also, was curious, are there any places where I can see cowboys ? LOL, call me crazy but when I head south I expect to see some, and I just do not. I end up a little disappointed.

I like wanna see things.
Re: Anybody from Texas?
Where is the concert? Texas is a large state. You mention Austin so I am guessing the concert is near there.
Austin: 6th street at night for the music, Barton Springs if you have never been swimming in a spring,
Between Austin and San Antonio is New Braunfels and Gruene: Grene Hall has more local muscians, rafting if there is water in the river, Luckenbach
San Antonio: Cowboys Dance Hall (free country and western dance classes, Bull riding, country music with large dance floor), Missions, Riverwalk
Ok just looked up tour dates for King George. The only June engagement I see is in Arlington TX near Dallas (about 4 hrs from Austin and further from SA).
So in Arlington there is also a cowboys dance hall, but I have not been to that one. http://www.cowboysdancehall.com/Arlington/ Sorry but I have not spent time in Dallas area. Just driven through but did notice the Stockyards. http://www.fortworthstockyards.org/Attractions.aspx
1) Texas Ranger museum, which is in Waco, in between Austin and Dallas.
2) There is some kind of rodeo in Fort Worth almost every week, usually at the Will Rodgers Coliseum..
3) There's always the Book Depository where supposedly JFKs assasin was standing. That's in Dallas.
4) Six flags theme park, Ranger stadium, and Hurricane Harbor are all in Arlington around cowboys stadium.
5) Glen Rose dinosaur or wildlife park. Glen Rose is about an hour south of Dallas. Has a large variety of fossils discovered in the area.
6) We have a pretty decent theater and concert selection between Fort Worth Bass Hall and the many Dallas venues.
7) If you're feeling super adventurous, there are lots of "haunted" places in the area. And north of Fort Worth there is a cemetary that claims an alien is buried there. Most of it is nonsense, but I will say I have had several strange incidents driving the back roads at night. But on a less creepy note, there are some ghost towns around. The closest I am aware of is just south of Fort Worth, called Thurber.
8) There's tons of museums in Dallas and Austin. Those are the cultural hubs in Texas.
As for Austin:
The South congress bats are always there. One way to see them is from a boat on the lake.
Stubbs BBQ is pretty good. There is a bar (apart of Stubbs downstairs) where you can hear the bands that play at Stubbs venue but not see them. There is always live music someplace in Austin. Just have to look.
There is shopping on South Congress.
You can walk the state Capitol grounds just about any time.
Magnolia cafe is also on South congress along with many other places to eat.
For clubs and bars you want the warehouse district and 6th street area.
I'm a fan of Alamo Draft House. They have all sorts of movie events and regular movie screenings.
You also have Zilker Park and Zilker pool. The pool is fed by a spring making it cold.
Inner space caverns is on the north east side of the Austin area. It's off of 35 and a good stop. Across the road (hopefully it's still there) is a candle shop where they hand make candles.
New Braunfels:
Has Schlitterbahn. It is the best water park IMO. It's also massive in size. It's a river fed water park making it unique.
San Antonio:
Has the mission trail. But that's more of a museum/history thing. Still very interesting tho.
The river-walk is nice. Check to see if there are any events or festivals when you go.
Natural Bridge Caverns is another nice cave exploring stop.
There are plenty of breweries, distilleries, and wineries in Texas.
