Drinkware/Cups/Glasses Help & Suggestions!

I am new on The Nest and have been searching and searching for a place to post this questions. We just bought a new home, and are getting married in 29 days. I just realized the one thing we did not register for is cups/glasses whatever you prefer to call them. We have wine glasses and such, but as far as everyday cups to drink out of we have not found anything we like. Our issue is, my fiance hates "small" glasses...and I hate a really heavy glass. I actually hate glass all around, unless of course for a more formal dinner (we are more of the grill out and chill couple). Right now our favorite cups to drink out of are our Newks cups haha. But I would like a set of something other than takeout cups-may be considered a bit tacky. I thought about Tervis Tumblers, but for 8 of them I am going to be looking at $88+shipping and tax. So before I hit the purchase button, I decided to do a little research and see what you guys recommend. Reading back over this, it sounds insane to be so concerned over something you drink out of! So, what are your suggestions? I want something sturdy, not tacky looking, preferably not glass, big enough for my fiance to be satisfied. Maybe I am just a crazy person and what I am looking for doesn't exist except for $11/cup. Thanks everyone in advanced!

  • For my everyday water cup I have an Aladdin 20 ounce cup that came with a lid and straw. I like that it doesn't sweat, isn't easy to knock over, and if I drop it on the patio it's not going to shatter everywhere. They're about $9-$10. I also have regular glasses for company, dinners, etc...
  • Go to Target.  Spend $30.  Get a 12 pack of big glasses for your H and a 12 pack of small ones for you.

  • The best place to get drinking glasses is yep, a Target or some other everyday department store.

There are also "junky" stores that sell drinking glasses. Try something like a Big Lots or a dollar store.
  • Ditto Target, etc. $88 seems crazy, when you can get basically the same thing for under $15.

I actually have a set of glass cups in two sizes that I bought at Wal-Mart a few days after I moved into my apartment post-college. Still have them. They look nice, and they work fine! And when I break one every few years it doesn't bother me, because I think I only spent $20 on the entire set! Not a bad investment, since they're going on 12 years now.

  • $88 on glasses? That's insane. I went to TJ Maxx and got my Libby Glasses, love them! They are a bit heavy, since it's thicker glass, but that's what makes them awesome. I broke all my Target ones, the glass was too thin and flimsy. The Libby ones are my favorite and are $8 or 8 glasses.
  • When I decided to "upgrade" our glasses I used OneKingsLane.com, a short-term sale site.  IMO, it's a good site to find nicer items at a discounted price.  I think I paid $40 for a set of 18 glasses that normally would have retailed over $65.

But, if you just need basic glasses, I totally agree with Target/Ross/Home Goods for cheap and decent glasses, and you can upgrade to something nicer later.
  • If you have one close by, Ikea is where we got our cups. They were cheap, and so far the best cups we have ever had! They are durable, dish washer safe, and they look great. If you don't have one close by forget about it, Ikea has a ridiculously high shipping charge for anything. I had a hard time finding cups are Target, but maybe ours just isn't as good as everyone's.
Theses are both sell sites, and sells aren't the same every week.
    Onekingslane.com sometimes has dishes.
    Zulily.com sometimes has dishes.
