Question about Room Size

This is me putting the cart in front of the horse....no announcements!

We have two spare rooms in our house. Our guest room is 14x10, and our home office is 12x7.  We use the guest room to get ready in every single day, and most of J's clothes are in there. The home office is nothing more than a dust collector.

In the future, I'd like to convert the home office into a nursery. Is 12x7 big enough for a cute/functional nursery? Or am I being mean by not relinquishing the larger room?

I'd hate to get rid of the guest room furniture (it won't fit in the home office, and we have no where else to store it). Also, we only plan on being in the house for another 5 years, if that makes a difference.

So - is 12x7 big enough, or will I regret it once I'm in there every day with a baby?

Re: Question about Room Size

  • I have no idea how large our spare bedroom is but it's not too large and may be as big as yours. It's perfect for our nursery but here's my confession- I still get dressed in there in the AM. We really didn't and still don't use it that often as a nursery. I always changed DS downstairs because it was easier. DS still sleeps in our room at 1yo. His room is freezing so well start crib training in the spring. I am glad I did not spend a small fortune on baby furniture. He has no clue what furniture, room size is, etc. I'm just keeping it real here lol. We bought all ikea furniture- crib, dresser, bookcase and chair. For now it works.

Hunter's room is 8x9.  It's tight, but we got the essentials in there!
Edit: I also wanted to add that we 100% use this room too.  Hunter was in his crib at 4 weeks, and we do most of his diaper changes and I did the majority of my nursing in this room too ( I didn't like being in the living room, right next to the front door).

  • Thanks for the input.

@OnceInLoveWithAmy I love that nursery! I'm not a fan of the cookie cutter design you find at Babies R Us.  I especially like the crib. And the room looks around the same size as our home office, and it's nice to see that it doesn't appear crammed with the standard furniture.

  • Henry's room is 13x8.5 if you count the closet/changing table area. It's more than enough room for a baby and we could have fit everything we have easily into a 12x7 room. We also have a much larger guest room which we left as the guest room.

  • I am embarrased to admit to how much time I've spent thinking about this  :\">, especially since I'm not even pregnant.

I think the smaller room will be more than adaquate for a nursery, and the guest room can stay as is.

Thanks!  I have never been a fan of the "themes" you get from BRU, mostly because you can't/won't use half the stuff that comes with it.  So I made my own theme.  Of course three years later EVERYTHING is owl/woodland themed for babies, hahah.
