Just moved to Marina del Rey!

Hey ladies!! DH and I moved into Marina del Rey from Minneapolis and LOVE it!! We have been here since December. We know that once we have kids and buy a house, it likely won't be half a mile from the ocean (or right by Mothers Beach) so we are soaking it all in.  Any suggestions on things to do, places to go, or ways to meet fun locals? I also joined a private practice in Santa Monica doing therapy and relationship coaching...so if you know any networking groups in the area as well, that would be great to have a recommendation!  I just wanted to introduce myself and get connected :)

  • Hi there!! The LA board hardly gets any attention...so sadly you probably won't find many people here. But welcome to LA!!! =)
We're in the valley...but as you've probably already discovered, MDR is really great.
We just went to dinner at J Nichols Kitchen (on Glencoe). I have to say that I enjoyed the food, but the service was not so great. However, I know people who've been before so I'd be willing to give them another try. I also really like C&O's on Washington.
In SM The Victorian on Main has food trucks on Tuesday nights (as long as it's not raining). They are pretty popular, so it might be a good place to meet people. There's also music at The Basement Tavern (same location around the back) most nights.
As far as non-food places...both Getty Museums are nice and free (you just have to pay for parking). I haven't been yet, but I've heard great things about the Annenberg Beach House.
I guess I should really ask what kind of activities you like. =)

  • I'm late, but welcome to LA!

If you like food trucks check out first Fridays in Venice on Abbot Kinney. There are tons of food trucks and it is fun to walk around, snack and people watch.

I'm sure you've noticed the weather is a little different here. =) If you're into outdoors activity, LA has pretty good hiking year-round. We especially like Topanga State Park and Will Rogers. We love to pack a picnic on a weekend and spend a few hours out in the sunshine.
