I hope your'e ready for this... it's long!!

We have a big yard in front of our apartment but it's not fenced in, so we only let Boom out off leash on the weekends when the street is quiet and our landlord (a music school) doesn't have stuff going on. Boomer's good off leash but he's better when there are less distractions.

I always play fetch with him with my back to the street so I can see what's coming down the street (other dogs, babies - he has a weird thing for babies, etc.) and so I'm throwing into the yard and not into the street.

Boomer & I are playing and I see some guy waving to us about 4 houses down at the local library. We sort of live where downtown and neighborhoods start to meet. And I think, he can't be waving to me, I'm too far away. So I go back to fetch with Boomer.

All of a sudden I see this guy (the one who was waving) running up to Boomer and I saying something (I couldn't really understand him). Then he drops his library book and starts doing somersaults on our lawn. This completely freaks Boomer (and me) out, but Boom's the only barking at him. Every time Boomer tries to go up to this guy and sniff him, he does something weird, like makes a big sudden movement or growls at him, which freaks Boomer out and Boom runs away.

At this point, Boomer is slowly starting to get closer to the street every time he runs away from this guy. I'm trying to ask the guy to stop, and to get Boomer to come to me so I can put him on his leash. The guy is making weird comments like thanking me for letting my dog out...?

Eventually someone else walks by with a dog which attracts weirdo, I get Boomer on his leash, try to calm him down, and start walking away. The other dog leaves and the guy starts following us.

He asks me my name and wants to shake my hand. Not knowing what crazy will do I tell my name and shake his hand.

I tell him we have to go and he starts following us. He asks me where I live and I tell him around.

He then asks me my name again and I tell him I just told him. He replies that he's bad with names.

I kind of just yell bye and he asks if I would ever be his girlfriend. I said probably not and continued to quickly walk away. I should also mention that I'm wearing sweatpants tucked into my winter boots, one of H's flannel shirts, haven't showered, no makeup and my hair is a mess, obviously girlfriend material.

I end up taking Boomer for a quick walk because we are literally in our front yard and I don't want this guy to know where we live. Once I'm sure we've lost him I go home, lock the door and hold Boomer for like 5 minutes.

Now every time I walk Boomer I keep an eye out for this guy. I hope I never see him again!

  • Wow! What a weirdo. I would have walked around after that too just so he didn't think I lived there. Although I think I would have ran after the first few words from him. I am still laughing though but glad he finally left you alone.
  • What a crazy person! I am glad you are ok. So weird!
