Registry question..

Did anyone else notice that Target's selection of items actually sold in stores is super small?? I know most people who will attend my shower(s) will want to just grab something quickly at Target (no BRU or anything nearby, unfortunately), and won't want to order online either there or from Amazon so I'm trying to register for as many in-store available items as possible but the pickings are slim. I want to make it as easy on people as possible, but Target is not cooperating!

And a question for already mommies - what are some good things to register for that people will actually buy? The little things I want like bottles, lotions, shampoo, swaddles... none of them are sold at Target, and if they are, they'r only sold online. We plan to CD, too. It's not making for a very useful registry so far. Help? :-/

Re: Registry question..

  • This doesn't help, but I think the Target selection has gotten smaller because their stock turns over frequently. I knew several people that were frustrated with their bridal and baby registries because many items would become unavailable in the time between setting it up and people making purchases.

I hope you come up with a solution!

  • @LooneyLife - Well, I guess I'm glad that I'm not the only one. It's pretty unfortunate, because Target used to be such a great place to register!

  • I'm no help, but I hope you're able to figure it all out
  • I didnt register at Target so I'm not a lot of help but Still register for things even if they are online only so you can use your completion coupon on things (especially if you have the Target card... Free shipping!) I just made sure to register for different price points on things ( people will go in together on some of the bigger ticket items). We didn't find out the sex so I did receive a lot of our gear and necessities. A couple friends who did find out say they received a lot more clothes than stuff. Hopefully people will remember gift receipts so if they go off the registry and you don't want/like/need the item you can exchange it. Good luck!

  • I've been worried about this, too, but mostly because I'm registering for so many things that really are online only (my CD registry, all the specific things Amazon carries like certain brands or colors/patterns of items). We're going to do a BRU registry also, but ultimately, I think people who can't get something in store will probably go with a gift card if they wait to order a gift ahead of time.

  • Maybe go to your local Target and complete your registry there instead of online.  Then you can add the items that are "online only" and go from there.

We did this for our bridal registry, because we knew a lot of people would be going there to buy our gifts.  Our dishes were online only, and the only people who bought them for us was my parents.  I noticed that people didn't buy items that were "online only" off our registries.

  • @fallbrideoct05 - that's a great point about the completion with the Target card! We've been meaning to sign up specifically for baby stuff, and the free shipping all the more reason now - thank you!

  • @brij2006 - I think we might have to do that when we go up to visit our parents this month. The Target here in town has a minuscule selection so it's pointless to do it here, but I think doing in-store stuff up there would help since that's where everyone will be going anyway. Thanks!

  • @LuckyAngel07 - That's true about the gift cards! And ultimately I'm not going to register for stuff I don't want just because it's available in the store, so this would be a good second option for people. I just want to make this as easy on people as possible... it's so hard!

  • You'll receive gift cards and some cash gifts too. I think I saw that the completion discount was 10% and with the target card you'll get an extra 5% off as well. I think its obvious that I love my Target card.

  • I noticed the same thing at the Target by my house, slim pickin's for baby stuff. I didn't do a wedding registry there because of how frequently the change their products. I plan on registering there for the same reasons you mentioned, but did all of the big stuff at BRU. Target is being reserved for little things like toys, bobby, maybe some baskets, etc. Still register for online only though, you never know what people might buy and you can always use gift cards and completion discount afterwards.

Good luck registering! DH and I started this weekend and it was a little overwhelming!

  • What kind of bottles are you wanting that aren't in the store. My local target stocks Dr Browns, Aveda, and Nuk bottles plus some other brand I don't remember. Dd loves the dr browns. I really think you need to go in the store because all the things you mentioned are sold in store at my store.

Some useful things I got at showers were my playmat, my diaper pail, clothes (you can't have too many sleepers lol) burp rags, and bottles. Also a few pacis.

@greenbeanqueen - oh yeah, they do have those things in store generally, but not the types that I want. For example, I'm going with the glass Dr. Browns bottles which are online only, but they do carry the plastic ones in store.

  • I registered at Target for my wedding and will never register with them again for anything for a variety of reasons. I agree that it is an easy option but honestly I would register where you want. Lots of people don't buy off the registry anyways or they use it as a guideline. If you do really want yo go with target they do carry some CDs, bibs, high chairs, cribs, pack n plays, jumparoos, diapers, wipes, bedding, decorations, sippy cups... Lots of stuff you will actually use.

  • we didn't register at target on purpose. i don't like their return policies. but then, i learned i didn't like BRU's much better. easier to return kind of, but sucky at the prices they return at.

i didn't register for any of the little stuff and we got plenty of it. people buy the shampoo's and crap to add on to their gifts. we didn't have to buy any of that until DS was probably 6+ months old.

as for registering for cd stuff-we had an amazon registry for that. we got a couple of AIO's, but that was it. people that don't cd (or think it's gross or whatever) don't tend to buy any of it because they don't understand what any of it is. there is a FB group that has squashed a lot of the common cd myths (creams that are actually safe to use, etc). again, i wouldn't bother registering for a ton of cd stuff. or i should say i wouldn't put too much time/effort in to it.

i also didn't read any of the above responses so if this has already been mentioned then....disregard.
