NBR: Where do you buy your jeans?

What's your favorite brand of jeans? I need to retire my current brand. The quality has gone downhill, and I'm kind of annoyed with their in store size philosophy. I'm specifically looking for petite styles and anyone who has luck with length at 5'2" of under, but I welcome any suggestions!

I am 5'3" and buy my short or petite jeans from Aeropostale or more recently from ON. But I am new to ON jeans so can't comment on quality. The Aero's last quite a while (2-3 years when not worn heavily)

    What brand were you wearing?
  • I am 5' 1" and buy my jeans mainly at Target, for three reasons :

    1.  I am there all the freaking time;
    2.  They have "short" jeans
    3.  I am cheap.

I just recently got a pair of nice jeans at Banana Republic (in the petite section).

I have no patience to try on jeans which is another reason I always buy them at Target.  I know they will fit and I don't have to try them on.

I would rather shop for bathing suits than jeans (that is how much I hate jean shopping).

  • @fabk I'm wearing Express jeans.  Besides length, they always fit me great. I've gone through 4 pairs of jeans since Wes was born, there are holes everywhere!  I do wear 3 or 4 pairs of jeans regularly, but the wear seems like too much for that.

I'm short, but not skinny.  I'm a 12 and they don't even sell 12 shorts in store.  They don't carry higher than a 12, but only regulars that I can find.  It seems a bit much to me to consider 12 the cut off point.  They've made their statement to me about who they are targeting and I'm not it, so I think it's time to move on!

@booneybear What cuts do you wear? I'm at target all the time too so I'd love it of I could find something there.

  • I've bought jeans at Target too I go for cut 4 which is built for curvy girls and I wear a bigger size than you do. I've also had luck at JC Penny, Riders by Lee.

  • I've been wearing ON jeans for ages, and I think they last pretty well.  I mainly shop for jeans there because I'm cheap and refuse to spend a ridiculous amount of $$ on jeans.  I generally only have 2 pair of jeans at any given time, and they usually last for a couple of years.  No help about petite sizes or short lengths, though.

I have friends that wear designer jeans almost exclusively, but always buy them at TJ Maxx for cheap.  So maybe that's an option if you're willing to put a little effort into shopping for them.  I'm told that designer jeans are completely worth it, but I just can't get on board with that.
  • Mine are typically from Lucky.  I know, I know.  But I probably wear jeans once a week, and tend to own only one or two pairs for a couple of years.  They come in lengths and some styles fit my small(er) waist and large(r) ass better without that stupid gap.  I love the trouser fit, it's most flattering on me.

You do have to watch out for low-rises though.  Their low-rise is REALLY low, and then they have a low-low rise in case you don't only feel like showing your crack when you bend over, you like to show it all the time.

  • I'm a big fan of the Old Navy Rockstar skinnies. They fit my curvy post-baby body perfectly. My oldest pair I bought right after L was born and they're still in reasonably good shape, though I've bought new ones and rarely wear that pair anymore. But for $30 you can't beat them.

  • I'm a short 5'4" and I usually get my jeans at either Lane Bryant or Walmart.  I really like their Faded Glory line in boot cut.  I bought a pair of Lee's there as well that fit me nicely.

  • :(  I love Express jeans, maybe I'm just not as hard on them?

The other pairs in my closet are from Gap, Old Navy, Lucky, and Calvin Klein.

  • Another fan of Aeropostale and Old Navy.  I don't spend a ton on clothes, so I can't justify a lot on jeans.  I don't care for skinnies, which means I have a hard time finding jeans lately.  Luckily, Aero still carries boot cut and I like their jeans.  They come in different lengths.  I'm 5'4" and the short length fits me well if I'm wearing flats or sandals, the regular length is good if I'm wearing boots or heels.  I like the Diva style at Old Navy too, which also comes in different lengths/cuts, though their sizing can sometimes be a little weird.

  • I wear Old Navy jeans pretty exclusively. You can usually find them in the "short" length in stores, and they have several different fits, depending on your body type. I wear the Sweetheart cut because they have a higher rise that keep things contained (I wear a 16ish). I also like the Rockstar jeans there, although I have to size up in them. And they sometimes run sales where the jeans are $19, which can't be beat!

  • Old Navy pants/jeans always give me that stupid gap at the waist in the back.  No matter what style I try.  I apparently don't have a normal shaped waist/back???

  • I don't remember what cut I get at Target.  I just know they are the ones with the lowest rise.  I have the skinny and the bootcut.

I used to love Old Navy jeans too, but I haven't bought any in ages and the ones that I have are too big for me now.

This is me completely.  Measure yourself with a tape measure against their size chart -- I'll bet that your waist is one size down from your hip (this is why for me, anyway).

I've just recently bought my first pair of ON jeans (Diva cut) and I love them and will definitely go back. Can't help you on the shorts because I always have to buy talls.  I found a pair of Gap jeans on consignment that fit really well but the chub rub from my thighs wore them out faster than I liked (they seemed brand new when I found them).

Not sure if you're the sewing type, but this popped up on my newsfeed a few days ago and might be helpful.  Seems pretty easy and you keep your original hem: http://www.doityourselfdivas.com/2011/12/diy-hem-jeans-fast-easy.html

  • I've been wearing ON jeans lately, I have the Rockstar (which I am pretty sure you told me about) and the Divas.  They are ok and have held up since I've had them.  I also wear AE occasionally. I like the Artists, but they are really low rise, at least on me they are, and I really don't wear them as much anymore because I am so aware of how low they are.  I want to buy some of their Boyfriend jeans except I'm not convinced that they look right on me.

I want to try Target jeans again, but a few years ago I tried a pair that was so freaking tight in a size larger than I normally wear and it was just too depressing to keep looking and trying them on.  Of course I don't remember the brand or anything, but I think I would like to try some out again.

  • I usually buy mine at Nordstrom Rack and get them hemmed.

If you're looking for jeans that are already short, I also have two pairs of American Eagle jeans that I really like. I'm between short and regular. I buy their skinny jeans in short.

  • So I'm looking at ON online and it seems like a lot of their petite stuff is online only.  Has anyone else found this? I kind of hate that, but I'd be willing to try if that's what it takes to find ones I like!

Sometimes with their other pants they only have the regular length, but the jeans should be available in all three lengths in store.

This.  I had to dig for talls but I kept coming across shorts and regulars.

I love that they are stretchy - I feel like as I start to lose weight (you know, when I get around to that...) they will still fit me for awhile.

  • American Eagle online has fabulous jeans for short girls. They go up to a size 18! They are the only jeans I can buy that don't need hemmed. I'm practically a circle, I'm so short and squat. It sucks. If I size up and get super skinnies, they fit my middle and are short, but not so huge in the thighs and hips. Love my AE jeans!

  • I like Paige brand jeans.  Those are kind of pricey and I look for them at places like TJ Maxx and Nordstrom Rack.  I have a pair of Lucky jeans that I like.  Right now I mainly wear skinny jeans from Loft.  They aren't expensive and they fit me really well.  I have a pair of skinny cords from there as well.  They have a petite section at Loft.  I pretty much don't give pants the time of day unless they have some stretch in them.   I go on dieting and exercising kicks so frequently that my pants never seem to fit right so whether I'm up or down in weight the stretch helps.

  • I really like Kut From the Kloth jeans from Nordstrom but I wear my jeans out too much to spend $75.
My absolute fave is ON Rockstar Demi-boot but they only come with extra length for heels (hmmm... I wonder how long the short is) but they look and fit great.
