Furniture Store Suggestions

My husband and I just bought a house in Phoenixville and have to shop for a lot of furniture.  We tried a bunch of local places last week (Raymour and Flanigan, The Dump, Macys Furniture, etc) but didn't have a lot of luck.  Does anyone have good suggestions for furniture shopping?  Places that are really big or have a good variety?  We'd be willing to drive a little if necessary, but just don't know the area well enough to know where to go.  I'd be grateful for any suggestions.  Thanks!

Re: Furniture Store Suggestions

  • Gamburg's in Hatboro is a decent size. I haven't bought from there myself but my sister did and had a great experience!
  • We ordered our bedroom set from Bob's Discount Furniture.  We were very happy with our experience.  We dealt with their North Jesery location two years ago, but I think they are in King of Prussia and Cherry Hill now.

  • Congrats and welcome to the neighborhood. Fellow 'villian, as well. My go-to place used to be Lebow Furniture in Royersford, but the place closed last year.

Locally, you may want to check out:
    Fecera's Furniture (Collegeville)
    Lastick Furniture (Pottstown)

I have not purchased at any of these shops, because Lebow was our regular place to go.  We did buy a new sofa at American Signature Furniture at the Metroplex (Plymouth Meeting) and shopped for sofas at Mealey's on 252 in Devon/Wayne area.
  • We bought some furniture at the dump in oaks and had an absolutely horrible experience. Long story short... Delivery was 7 hours late, they lied and said we weren't there, one guy came to deliver a queen sized bed with box spring , huge dining room table and 6 chairs, 4 chairs were broken and took 3 months to get replaced and we carried our own stuff in. All for $120!!

I've had friends with similar experiences. If you pick it up you can look at it before it gets that bad.

We loved our experience with mealey's!!

  • I think the Dump is the kind of place to only shop for small furniture pieces, like a side table or something that you can take home that day, I probably wouldn't purchase anything else--too many horror stories.

Also, it's been several years, but I had luck at the Morgantown Furniture Outlet. It's right off the PA Turnpike at the Morgantown exit (approx 15 miles west of Downingtown). It's an old mall, and each of the storefronts focus on the various rooms of the house (i.e., couches are all in one spot, bedroom sets are all together, etc). I don't recall if they offer delivery, because I know that we left that day with our sofa and put in the back of a cargo van.
  • I've had a lot of luck at the American Signature Furniture in the Metroplex.  There is also an Ashley's on Allen Wood Road in Conshohoken.

And because I'm a sucker for cheap Swedish knock offs, IKEA is right near the Ashley's Furniture too.

  • We bought our couches and dining room table from Gamburgs. I still love our couches, 5-6 years later and they've held up great. Our dining room table I feel very eh about, but I think thats just the choice we went with, not the store itself, so I don't hold it against them.

The ONLY issue I had is that our couch came with pillows and the pillow fabric was on backorder so they held the couch, waiting for the pillows. I finally called and asked, bc it had been the alloted time we were supposed to wait to get them, and was told the couch was there. I kinda yelled at them. They're pillows. Who cares. Just give me the couch wihtout them. So they gave me $100 for my troubles and a few weeks later the pillows arrived.

  • All that being said, I'd still go back and buy furniture from there. The stores is huge so they have tons of options.
