That missing jetliner.:(

Spare the kids and spare the adults. Please.

Re: That missing jetliner.:(

  • CNN said the youngest passenger is 2. The oldest is 76. There are several passengers who have not yet had their 5th birthdays. SO SAD. And, so SCARY.

I really hope that this airliner doesn't reappear in some nation undetected to be used as a weapon.

I was thinking that too. The plane could have reached Islamic strong holds in Afghanistan, India, Pakistan, Iran etc. It could get real bad when Iran has enough enriched uranium to build a bomb this year. Imagine how far a repainted 777 full of hostages, fuel and an atomic could go. Right from Israel to any part of western Europe . The technical guys at work keep talking about it in the coffee shop.  Glad DH and myself  seen Israel two weeks ago before some madmen blows it up.
  • It very well could be that that jet climbed to 42K feet to incapacitate the passengers. Decompress the cabin (but not the cockpit) and they are out of the picture.

There are a shitload of islands out there; the jet could be on one of them, with somebody awaiting the landing.

Then again, maybe the authorities know where the plane is and know where the passengers are and they want this situation resolved before the press and public get ahold of the info.

It is odd that nobody stepped forward to claim this incident. Maybe it was also an inside job and the only 2 who knew this was going to come down was the pilot and copilot.

    It is anybody's guess.

The jet could have flown east and who knows where it went after that?

    Anybody's guess what happened here.

So sad for the families. So many interesting people with fascinating lives.

This is exactly what DH thinks happened. so bizarre that there were no phone calls going outbound.

Suspend all air traffic until there is resolution.

    That's what I think.

But then again, that would possibly have a damning effect on the economy of the world.

I don't get it: UPS, Fed Ex, DHL and other over-the-road vehicles are equipped with GPS. THere are even dog collars with a GPS in it --- why is it that jetliners do not have a GPS???

If there was a GPS -- and in a place where no hands could access it --- the mystery would never have happened.

Now they are saying the jet flew at 5000 feet -- isn't that a bit higher than what the usual altitude is as a jet comes in for a landing -- when the jet is perhaps an air mile away from the runway?

The passengers were probably incapacitated and then died -- hence the climb to 40K. That would cause a problem with depressurization. Not permissible for a commerical liner to fly at that altitude.

In 7 hours -- if you draw a radius around the point of origin that extends to Bejing and a tad bit farther (since that flight was going to take 6 hours) you have quite the range of where that plane could land in that time.

I don't think it is possible that it could have headed for Antartica -- too far; isn't that perhaps 10 hours by air?

And somebody somewhere is bound to see something. Not everyone is asleep at that hour. How come nobody saw anything???

THis is a cross between the Kitty McNeil incident (because "nobody" saw "anything" --- I find that hard to believe nobody anywhere spotted that plane; it could NOT have been over just water and no islands the whole time!), The Langoliers, Millenium, Lost, Amelia Aerhart, DC Cooper and that other incident that happened in the early 70s where a plane crashed somewhere in Alaska and the survivors were not found for months.

This entire incident also reminds me of that joke where the border patrol guy stopped a man on a bike; every time he did the search, nothing would turn up.

He'd show up on a bike; search would be done, nothing found.

The guy on the bilke eventually got arrested, but not on that guard's watch.

Years later, the bike guy and the guard met up in a bar; both were very old men by then. "I have to ask you; I am just curious --- I can't get you into trouble now -- what did you go to jail for? What were you smuggling?"

    The guy replied "Bikes."
  • Just read that Israel has beefed up on security due to this plane. I know this is weird to say, but I hope it crashed and isn't going to be used for a weapon of serious destruction. If I were a family member of someone on board I would want my loved one to have died in a crash and not at someone's evil hands.

I also read that 2 of the passengers on board boarded with stolen passports???

For all we know, the only 2 people in on this plot were the pilot and co pilot.

    Who knows where they are?

That's what the problem is now: where are they and what is this jetliner doing?:(

Other things I can think of: hostage situation and it's being kept quiet until resolved, some country has it (somebody would spot that jetliner on its way en route -- and wouldn't it pass an airport somewhere en route?) or if you want far fetched, string theory or something else related to mysterious disappearances.

Horrible for the families: no closure. And I bet no answers, either. How sad.

I don't think this has to do with the 20 software engineers. if they wanted those guys that badly, they cold have commandeered them earilier on in some other fashion, I think.

I don't know what significance the stolen passports have; maybe it is or is not tied to this incident. Who knows?

There is a gent who said he is a commerical pilot --- I heard this on Coast to Coast AM last night.

He went by a pseudonym --- that jetliner is run on a more or less wireless computer system; I've forgotten the name they use for the system.

The pilot had to file a flight plan -- electronically -- and he must have overridden the data he entered.  The pilot also theorizes that the copilot was incapacitated by the pilot, possibly with a sedative or something else (It had to be relatively quick acting since all of this happened an hour after takeoff -- I am guessing he could have bopped the copilot over the head, strangled him, asphxiated him or maybe even shot him at very close range. I wonder if the pilots are TSAed before takeoff.)

He says that not one person on the ground even contacted the jet as it turned is fishy as it gets. Why didn't somebody on the ground say "370 we see you; you're off course --- please copy and reply" or something to that effect?

No military jet was scrambled -- why not???

It is likely, he said, that the jet's landed and on the ground and is being retooled for another purpose. (yeah, but how do they get fuel out there and accumulate enough of it to fill a jetliner that size?)

It's not known how much fuel the jet had upon takeoff.  --- and for that jet to ascend that high is nearly impossible to do --- the thing weighs 900K pounds, I believe. That jet couildn't stay at that altitude for very long, it was at that altitude possibly just long enough to incapacitate the passengers. Hence no phone calls going out. And I would imagine that a lot of those passengers were settling down and asleep; this was a midnight red eye flight and it is 6 hours to Beijing.

This would make Shah a mass murderer, imo.

If this thing is on the ground, it's camoflaged. That's my guess. I don't think there's a hangar that large waiting around for a jetliner that size.

Those cockpit doors are solid as the proverbial Gibraltar. No way anybody can get int here unless there is permission from the pilot and nobody can incapacitate the doors on their own.

Nobody has come forward, he said, because the job they are doing is still in process.

Very disturbing.  All of this and you cannot spare the passengers. That's foul and disgusting in itself.
  • The tech guys in the lunch room at work probably could have pulled this caper off by themselves. DH was tinkering with his cell phone over the east coast but it would not get any bars of signal until had decended to approx 1000ft during landing approach. Cell phone jammers are a few hundred bucks on eBay . I'm tempted to get one for church services, weddings, the theatre , restaurants and meetings. Apparently the avionics bay that holds the aircrafts computers, oxygen , circuit breakers etc on a 777. It's accessed through a hatch in the floor in first class. Not behind the locked cockpit door. A passenger could have made their way in there and held the plane hostage easy. What ever happened MH370 flew to or almost to the last drop of fuel over seven hours. Or was at least idling on the ground until all electrics were shut off. With the "success" of 911 and the militants re-playing the twin towers 10's or thousands of times. Some fool is going to try it again sooner or later.

This is something I have never heard of.

Now they are saying the plane's last signal came 10 days --yep, 10 days -- later. What's going on here???

It is a worrisome situation -- and an unprecedented one. A jetliner 200 feet long with a 200 foot wingspan and weighing how much, is gone and not located?

There are many airstrips used in past wars and conflicts that have simply been abandoned. I don't know if their locations are declassified and now made public. Maybe that jet is on one of those airstrips.

    Has anybody checked Dubai?

There is also a lot of urban legendese and other funky stuff going around that the jetliner that disappeared is the 404th one manufactured.  404 as in "file not found."
