NBR: Perspective

When I first joined FB a long time ago, a girl from HS was one of the first people to send me a friend request.  I haven't seen or spoken to her since we graduated, and don't really have a desire to reconnect.  She was one of those girls who wasn't part of any particular clique, but she was friends with everyone, and is one of those people who has so many FB friends you have to doubt that she's actually met them all.  One day, she popped up as 'somebody you might know that you're not friends with,' and I realized that she'd unfriended me, not that I actualy ever talked to her, or even noticed that she did.  Fast forward to yesterday, when she sent me a friend request.  Weird.

I asked my husband if he thought I should accept it or ignore her, and he looked at me like I'd lost my mind.  Then asked why I spend so much time thinking about stupid sh!t, I don't know this woman and will never see her again, who cares?

And there, my friends, is my Tuesday morning perspective.  Go forth and stop spending time thinking about stupid sh!t. :)

Re: NBR: Perspective

  • I just want to add that I'm really glad FB didn't become "big" until after I was out of school.  I think if I was in school, I would feel like I had to be "friends" with all classmates.  Since I was far removed from school before I finally joined FB, I feel like I can be a bit more selective on my "friends".
  • Admittedly it's crap like that which is why I've never joined facebook, nor have any intention to join facebook. I know I'd get too caught up in that stupid stuff and I'm pretty good at wasting time as is without the help of social media!
  • Confession: I use the FB "friends" that I'm not actually friends with to satisfy the demands of the games I like to play when they say I can only have more lives if I "connect on FB."

And I have no problem unfriending or ignoring a request from pretty much anyone.  If I don't like something you posted or you're only posting things that seem to annoy me, later for you.
  • I've mostly stopped posting on FB over the last few months.

  • I use FB as sort of my own online personal journal. I post things for my benefit, because it's easy to do quickly. Sometimes I make posts private, but most of the time I just post things that all my friends can see. I figure they can block me if they are tired of hearing about baseball. :)

I do have to chuckle at how worked up people get about what other people post. When people complain about people posting too many food pictures, or too many baby pictures, and say things like, "I don't care what you had for breakfast!!!" I can't help but think, well, you care enough to complain about it. It's FB, scroll past it and be done.

Like you said, people spend too much time thinking (and complaining) about stupid shit. I shall take your advice, and try not to dwell on the stupid.

  • Stuff like this makes me think back to the early days of Facebook when it was only college students.  I miss those days.  I used FB to keep track of friends and what was going on around campus.

Now.  Now most of my posts come from Wordpress and other sites.  But it has been a great tool for my dad's side to keep in contact.  We're all over North America and at least two people from each family (he's one of five) is on, so word spreads fairly quickly.
